Ibrahim Ali Fumbled in White Packets

The picture of Ibrahim Ali distributing white money packets to the Chinese people in conjunction with the first time Perkasa open house drew either question marks and brickbats saying that Ibrahim Ali is giving the Chinese community a death wish, since a white packet means for funeral money. I've been through three to four funerals enough to see how it is like.

I must say that Braheng had fumbled in dealing this aspect because some may consider it as a bitchslap from Perkasa to the non-Malay community since it is their attempt to show the moderate face whereas it has been noted since its inception that this one of the NGOs apart from those noted to be making broohas on racial, religion and royalty matters. The picture there says it.

If Perkasa were to live to the claim that they mind the sensitivities of the other races, they could have at least serve a dish of roast pork, as to round up the meals served, lest because they still want to show that they are holier than thou that they will not do that? Isn't that even defeating the idea of showing how "moderate they are". There are people out there who still remembered what Braheng Ali who accidentally tell the Chinese people to stock up and stay home prior to the 9 July Bersih 2 rallies.

It should have been $10000 of hell's money BTW. But I found it funny and sarcastic to say things about this man who likes to rant about Ketuanan Melayu, jaguh kampung yet fumbled in this thing.

So the research which I read the other day turns out to be true. There are many people out there who likes to make nonsense rants, very very conservative views and unwilling to change, adapt and reform. The research reveals that people have prejudice views because they have a very low intelligence level IQ.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. So you see, Ibrahim Ali is a living example of those with prejudice, exhibiting low level IQ (hence his bragging of Jaguh Kampung). I could have said "churn choi" but hey, I ROFL over to at the antics of Pak Pandir of the day! We can even break out our foot in his John Brown hind pants to make him run a mile for fumbling - at the risk of his heart problem.

Pay close attention to what conspiracy theory man David Icke said about the clear distinction between Jews and Zionism. One is a religion and another is about how they act and think. Hishamuddin Rais mentioned this several times in writings that even Jews stand up to against the brutality of the Palestinians, which was never reported in the western press.

There's More Than Just What Petra Says Plainly

I had seen many people who have either bashed or expressed total frustration in light of Raja Petra's (RPK) interview with the New Straits Times early this week. He did underline that he would only grant interviews if any media is willing to take word by word (whatever is said from his mouth), not twisted or manipulated by any other means apart from him. And when this was published in the papers, people and the now opposition, Pakatan Rakyat keeps bash him left and right since to them, Pete was considered a double-dealing son of a bitch, to an extent PKR Sec-Gen called him a blogger hired by UMNO.

First thing, I wanted to retrace some history way back.

Frankly speaking, since I started writing in 2007, right after I started having my own internet connection and the confidence to write and blog, I started to love the present habit of cussing and whacking United Malays National Organisation kingdom come for their shear arrogance and blunders. I got to admit that it happened when I started reading his series of things he writes in both columns, and then later during the Permatang Pauh by-election, the funny writings of Hishamuddin Rais even raised my anger up and along the way I started to feel cynical about that damn bloody political party. Along the way, I wanted to meet the man in person so whenever there were any functions or parties just to say how I really enjoyed reading his material, that has occasionally full of wit and sarcasm at times.

And so by chance, I was invited to some soirees / parties / dinner by a mutual friend that from that on, I happened to have some encounters with the man himself. At times the group of people had some food, listening to some interesting things he had to say and it was kind of interesting and great to remember some moments. This went on until the last time I encountered him in person was during the 2009 New Year's party (he remarked how I was so hungry that I was eating my meal that mad, as I just finished work late) - the next month he left - as I learned of what could happen had he not left. At least from meeting a part of the man's personality can show what's said plainly and what's said indirectly.

In the last three months (or you can go back further if you want), Petra keeps quoting things from Sun Tzu's Art of War. The first chapter alone had a few things that were quoted. For instance, 1:18-22 says:

All warfare is based on deception. #

The truth of this pithy and profound saying will be admitted by every soldier. Col. Henderson tells us that Wellington, great in so many military qualities, was especially distinguished by "the extraordinary skill with which he concealed his movements and deceived both friend and foe."

If Pete quotes things like that above, then I was certain that there is a definite hidden reason of why he would eventually do the interview with News Straits Times in Singapore. The interview, having read most of it is a duality in nature.

It can be a real weakness in Pakatan Rakyat. Many have forgotten that a party can function well with stinging and nudging criticism even from their own supporters. As if a person is walking on a tight beam, a hand counterbalances the other hand and if the other hand is not put out, a person is high likely to fall off balance. PKR is always since the last three years remain the weakest link of the coalition, particularly because it still carries the relics of the UMNO mentality. And if you are in the party, you will need to understand (read: sizing) the clear relationship between Azmin and Anwar during their heydays in the Finance ministry. While some ex-UMNO men have already turned into a new leave, there are still things that are remain the same as the opposite.

I don't want to repeat or summarize whatever Petra has said in the papers. Of course this has given the UMNO-owned media ammunition to whack the opposition again and again, resulting in many of fans calling him a sell-out. There are people who have tried to tell you of holes in your turf, but you turned them away. There are people who are offering help to make it better, but you turn them away. There are people who want to air grievances to alternate media to let you know, but you don't bother...so where can the people turn to, huh?

But along the way, if you can picture how an pro-UMNO supporter (we're referring to the butter-boys as a case in point) think and feel with that you would notice how some things that Petra quoted from Sun Tzu comes into the fore.

No sooner later when he did say in "Which Category Are You In?", where he did pointed out that "I expect to get whacking", I have a good idea and a reason why Pete would be up to that. If I am to look at the opposite of the coin, there's a feeling and false sense of relief. The underlying theme in the game of poker is deception. It's really up to us to use our heads well and think where the game of politics is like cards on the table. Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington was also noted to be a master of the game to outsmart his opponents including Napoleon, which was why he was an integral person in fighting the Napoleonic Wars.

Until today I didn't really buy into the feeling of others about the man their idol double-crossing and selling himself out to the enemy. For instance, I read a few comments in Facebook of some people expressing their disgust and they being let-down from the event. Or even someone, like Paula, (a.k.a Masterwordsmith) whom I've met many times before was giving an interesting expression of frusration title a few days ago - "Why....RPK?". So it turned out to say there are some people who don't really understand clearly what's the intended statement, apart from you need to maybe read a few rounds to get the drift and the other meaning, if you're aiming for the advance level of mindset thinking.

The enigmatic Snape, from the Harry Potter series was also a clear literary case study of a character playing both sides of the game with deception. But along the way it has an ugly side of making your friends feeling cheated and unhappy along the way. Since Pete has made it clear from the beginning, then I don't have anything to whine about but at least can figure a few ways to pick up from the trail here.

I've repeated many times that I am no fan of Anwar Ibrahim although there are things in Pakatan that I like about. But right now, I am in very sarcastic and cynic mood to see how UMNO, their partners, party-related NGOs, Perkasa, Braheng Ali making a fool of themselves with their almost immature nonsense statements and blunders. True, we got to move on and Petra's statement indirectly nudges everyone to go on the goal of Anything But UMNO. At Melewar last month, the message relayed was not to be afraid of BN or UMNO but to bury them 6 feet under.

Since these mob groups spend their money like if it's nobody's money but theirs, we might as well ask them to pay us up to $50 million if the lose in the GE, ain't so?

UPSI Scuffle: "Media, Tangkap Gambar!"

One of my friends told me to look specifically into certain portions of the video. Just to allow all of us to refresh our mind, I will put up the video for you all to review the thing again.

There are two interesting segments to pay attention to.

At 3:02 onwards, the undergraduate is making a statement to the police:

"Jangan ingat kita langyak. Jangan ingat kita senang ditumpas. Jangan sekali-sekali ingat mahasiswa lemah semangatnya. Kita hadir pada malam ini bukan untuk berjenayah tapi untuk menyatakan solidariti kita pada Afdli dan kebebasan akademik. Polis jangan layan kami sebagai penjenayah.."

This means that there was a clear statement to the police that the undergraduates who were there that night was never intended to commit any criminal act. Why would a sane and intellectual person would commit such thing apart from it's against moral conflict or it's against an act of lunacy?

At 4:00, look at the cops rushing from the left which resulted in the start of the scuffle. Did anyone started insulting any police officers prior to the scuffle? Eight seconds later at 4:08, a voice on the background said "Media tangkap gambar!" when the cops start arresting the 17 people off away.

Of course later on the scuffle happened and with 17 people arrested that night, Dr Juanda later was quoted saying at Malaysian Insider: “Yes, you have power, but let the people respect and appreciate your power, not stoke (more anger) with hate.”

The police have repeatedly denied of any violence done, but the Safzwan - who was knocked unconscious was saying otherwise, base on his account. And here's a danger part: sometimes, the police can misuse their privilege and power - if proven - to cover their tracks of wrong doing. Either way, the video, if reviewed over and over again seems to say otherwise of what the cops said. If there happens to be any further material or evidence put in Youtube that sheds more light on that matter, then it seems that our state police has lied in the skin of the teeth.

The Imaginarium of Ibrahim Ali

Author's note: This is the first posting to be written via the iPad way.

Ibrahim Ali has been making headlines, foolish statements and embarrassing himself over the past few weeks with many wild allegations and fever dream statements. It was about 3 weeks ago that when he made the imaginary enchanted dagger statement. It was very very funny to hear a ranting madman with wild delusions said that while many of us have accepted the reality that mythical objects like the Excalibur are just myths and not a real fact.

Braheng's Imaginarium not only consist that selection above but instead contains relics of the Cold War mindset. Maybe there are a few in the world who apart from him who still has the Cold War mindset. By right, that kind of mindset was already gone more than 20 years ago right? Isn't the fall of communism in 1990 means that the people can move on with the new way of thinking instead of sticking in there? The statement that "Malays lose power or Malays will be left out" is still the same root but variant branch of the Cold War mindset apart from the Communist thing that was already gone in Malaysia over the last 50 years.

No doubt this Jaguh Kampung's figment of imagination has already stirred up a lot of the butter boys (kaki bodek) and apologists from BN in pursuing things that are really non-existent. Take for instance of when Bersih announced of doing it's 9 July protest, he was the first one apart from Muhyiddin Yassin to make a wild allegations that it would be another 13 May problem when there's modern technology to relay information that there's not going to be another bloodbath. What is actually true is that the bloodbath thinking and who did it was originally started by the hardcore UMNO people themselves! It's pretty hard to understand the perverse logic of having protests. There are many who foolishly say it's Anwar's fault, Anwar Ibrahim's this and that whereas the real motive behind it is that people have started to realize the rights of a citizen bestowed upon them by the Supreme law of the land - the Constitution of course.

The reality is that a man has the right to know, the right to ask anything when in doubt and it is a job of other persons to clarify a person's questions whenever possible, not to put out a brick and a direct full stop without answering a question to an inquisitive person like that Christian pastor. In fact this is identitcal to the people product of the present education system: they were never taught to think, be curious and asking things but instead were told things are written on stone and cannot be questioned. Does that mean in our view that a normal person can recruit God and speak in his name although it is debatable. Is it taking credit of speaking with name of God a big thing that cannot be questioned apart from the prophets recognized in the major religious books?

If there is one thing I recalled from Malaysia Today 3 weeks ago was this:

Ibrahim Ali and those of his ilk need to come into the modern world. They have to extricate themselves from this imaginary world of Hang Tuah and Taming Sari and all that bullshit. The English do not live in the world of King Arthur and Excalibur. It is time the Malays did the same.

It's true that he's ranting like a madman who believes of end of days or bad things to happen only to find out that nothing really happened. Funny to believe that he being an American university graduate to see him talk shit and act with a before 1990s mentality. If you look back at the Kampung Baru video in June featuring him, his speech gets too emotional barely less than 5 minutes of speaking in the public. Apart from hating people like him, I find it very cynical to say that these madmen deserve to lose millions of dollars to a poker game and shitting themselves in front of the public right now.

Jangan Takut / Don't Be Afraid.

I was busy on Saturday and I was tuning in to the student demonstrations on the Twitter networks. At the end of the day, I happened to find out that there were few students lowering najib's flag at UMNO headquarters and replacing it with the Bebas flag. The image below was a daring thing to do. A revolutionary thing to do, not the those that Najib claimed to say recently.

There have been claims from UMNO Youth (you can see Arman and Reezal in the video below) that the students insulted Najib but it can be two ways to answer: one is that they are unintentional or this means that many people now don't really like Najib nor respect him anymore.

When Arman said that "of spitting at the undergraduates", I thought wow, these fellow there are more of a mob group behavior, as what UMNO is right now. But if we are not to be afraid of these groups then, there is a big chance Malaysia will change to the better future.

Last Thursday at the ABU event in Gombak, Haris was on the stage telling people "not to be afraid of them", in order to bury UMNO and BN. That's the answer to the problem and overcoming fear. And it's the way these people will panic around is what I would love to see.

Jangan takut kepada UMNO. Jangan takut pada Barisan. Berganding bahu. Kuburkan UMNO dan BN!

This started from a tweet suggestion and it became an event. At 2 pm today, it will be lawyer vs lawyer. LoyarBurok's Edmund Bon will be debating with Kedah Gerakan Youth Chief Tan Keng Liang over the controversial Peaceful Assembly bill 2011.

As already known, Keng Liang is a proponent of the bill while Edmund is against it. Moderating this event will be Wan Saiful Jan from IDEAS. The event will start between 2 to 2.30 pm.

Since this will be live from the event location, please watch this space as we will go live at around 1.45 pm.

Blame Ourselves For The Mistakes We Made

The following excerpt was what the late Tunku Abdul Rahman said in 1988.

"Janganlah ikut apa yang didakyahkan oleh pihak pemerintah hari ini di serata-rata kampung yang mereka pergi membawa berbagai-bagai dakyah segala-galanya apa yang mereka buat mesti turut. Fikirlah sendirilah betul atau tidak betul perbuatan mereka itu. Jangan ikut mereka begitu sahaja, gunalah akal gunakan fikiran. Apa yang berlaku yang baik mereka semua buat, yang tak baik pihak lawan semua buat dan apa yang mereka buat tak baik mereka sorokkan dan buruk salah atas orang-orang lain yang menentang mereka. What does this mean above? This really shows that we have forgotten ourselves that we have to think, not blindly follow what the government of the day will say, even if they are wrong. This is the problem that many of us have failed to acknowledge. That we often submit that their word is authentic, true and cannot be questioned.

What we are not aware of is that the mistakes that they do would be hidden and fingered it on the those who opposed or stood up to correct what is wrong. For instance, in Bersih, NGOs and civil societies have pointed out mistakes that were ignored by the government of the day. Ignorance and self-denial have forced them to go out in protest to make the point. And to harsh police actions are meant to cover up their mistakes.

The 13th general election is considered the mother of all elections in Malaysia. There is a spectre of whack looming over UMNO and they will attempt to bank on the naive and the Malay votes as the main key to retain their power. But having seen all the wrongdoings and the misery we suffer from inflation, price increments, etc..aren't we suppose to do the right thing of kicking out those who have been squeezing our money for their own whim?

Yes, we will be tempted by them to give them another 5 years, but if we are stupid to cow before them, then we should blame ourselves for the mistakes we made when we see more suffering for the wrong choice we made, not listening to Najib's statement of making the wrong choice of not voting BN. After all, it's proven that they have been involved of tons of wrongdoing for the past 30 years or so, right? And there are people who are still unwilling to believe of what is happening and will continuously support the corrupt party. But what happens when Malaysia is in disaster but the government of the day still remains that party? What and how will they answer?

Which is why going back to what Tunku said in 1988 is worthwhile to remember that we have forgotten things easily.

The Malays Decides The Nation's Fate

Because Malays form at least 60 percent of the total 28 million Malaysians, the bulk of the votes will decide the fate of the nation in the next 50 years or so. The following comments taken from Malaysiakini's Your say segment says it all:

Cloudnine: For years Umno had promoted the narrow financial and corrupt interests of the few leaders from Mahathir onwards to Badawi and now to Najib. Knowing their weaknesses, they pretended to promote the interests of the Malays, throwing the crumbs every now and then and the Malays fall for the same trick over and over. At the same time, they are robbing and plundering the nation's coffers.

Now they cry the same cry - calling on the Malays to unite to protect their own interests. Khairy let slip that Umno needs power to protect the nikmat. Ha ha ha. P Dev Anand Pillai: So what this PM is telling the Malays is that their future only lies in the hand of Umno and only Umno knows what is best for the Malays. So, whether they are corrupt or not is not an issue, whether they cheat and plunder is not an issue, the only issue is that no other concern can rule this country except Umno!

So if the Malays buy this crap, they will be doomed for the next 54 years. If nothing else works, the herd and siege mentality, which they keep deeply embedded, will be unleashed to threaten the non-Malays. This time, we will not be bullied into submission. We are ready and waiting. Come rain or storm, we will vote.

Sadirah: The sheer desperation. Where is the intellectual honesty? Saying different things to different people, all for the cause of votes. There is no such thing as Malays losing power, only UMNO will. Simple, there are 18 million of total 28 million Malaysians are Malays and you can't simply amend the constitution alone.

Wah..so terror meh that statement from this Orang Eee here, which was part of the UMNO Youth bashing session on Pakatan Rakyat. It's definitely one statement to make that they expect all Malays to unite under one banner called United Malays National Organization. But the thing is not all are stupid as they think. Some are smart to see that to see that only those who are willing to be cheated over and over again or refusing to change are those willing to sing in chorus to their tune.

With that kind of statement from this Mamak ultra, I pictured that as insulting other people. On the other hand, there are some people that can't understand the underlining statement of the "village champion" like Shaik Hussein - which is that it can be translated as a blackmail to the people on voting - a voting offense if this fella decides to contest in a state seat anyhow. Were this is Russia, the person would have been considered a persona non grata or if we're still in World War 2, he would have been shot on sight for disobeying Order #227.

It is already a little too late for our dear Khairy to admit of "foul language remarks" as through cyberspace, people who read it is considered that an insult, especially when the man above said that he won't mince his words anyhow.

This of course reminds me of something else along the way. You see concurrently with the speeches, the UMNO Youth has been pushing for all of their members to defend Sharizat at all costs in the NFC spill. And the person who says that is none other than Reezal Merican, another Orang Eee to protect another Orang Eee. Sarcastically I start to think that it's now a fact that it's already United Mamak National Organization. 2 weeks ago, my retiree friend wrote a comment on (Mahathir The Uniting Factor) that rings true:

I have no disrespect for the Malay culture which is beautiful. We can all learn a thing or two from Malay adat. However, I do hold a grudge against the deliberate extermination of one’s own heritage. I further find it offensive when Indian Muslims, in their eagerness to convert, use Machiavellian means to identify themselves as Malay. It demonstrates a lack of dignity and self-worth.

Naturally, I feel sick when I read of the charades of UMNO politicians, academicians, and community leaders masquerading as Malays, spewing hatred against other races, sometimes against their own roots. Even when they’re challenged as to their real identity, they shamelessly defend their false Malay roots. For some, Tamil is still spoken in whispers, in the privacy of their homes, like it were a “dirty” parlance.

Why? For special rights? For economic handouts? My grandfather worked very, very hard for providence. So did the men of his generation. The early Indian Muslim traders who came to these shores were an industrious lot who earned their bread. They contributed to Malaysia’s rich heritage without becoming cultural orphans. They cherished their roots. Hardship and experience polished them. It earned them monopolies in certain trades that last till today.

This legacy is being destroyed. A culture and heritage is disappearing only to be replaced by a false sense of security. In the process, the Indian Muslims are offending not only their own race and the Chinese, but many Malays too. In the long run, we as a community will isolate ourselves from our roots and the nation in which we want so much to assimilate with.

Peaceful Assembly Act 2011 - Caveats and Thoughts

Thankfully, there was an online scanned copy of the draft act which appeared in Malaysiakini, in which I managed to scrutinized the entire bill. Though it was entirely in Malay language, I was able to understand the contents and identified some of the content in which drew the ire of many civil societies and opposition parties. Having read that, there are some caveats from the existing bills that continues to go on and if the bill is being bulldozed just because of the numbers factor (passed by simple majority), then the fears of many parties would be true.

The Caveats:

1. Almost everything is impossible and not permitted.

Many have forgotten of the history of how UMNO came to existence in 1946. It required a street demonstration led by the late Onn Jaafar (Hishamuddin's very own grandfather) against the English to get their attention and subsequently the cancellation of the Malayan Union. By saying that street protests are not allowed in this case, it also implies that UMNO has also forgotten how it came to existence. Were such laws in place came in 1946, the party will not have existed and subsequently, we would not be in the current landscape as of now.

Section 4(1) and 4(2) mentions elements of what is not allowed in an assembly including specific participants and restricted locations. The problem on locations is how do you consider a location, base on the geographical factor to be considered as a restriction area? That is one. Another one is dealing with on the case of an arrested person being from a country that ratifies the UN human rights declaration. For instance, if an European is arrested over a case of participation of an assembly, does that mean that as part of the welfare of the citizen arrested, will they have to interject and fill in the paper work to say that he / she is protected in the native country's rights?

Does going to the embassy or the palace to make a statement considered as a street rally? I find it a little illogical to call that as an act of offense under 4(2). Rather than making things tedious in section 4 and since it goes against the intentions of the Reid Commission-drafted Constitution, it might be more appropriate to say that street demos are alright with exceptions to (insulting the Agong, challenging the official religion, etc), whatever that has been defined in the basic articles and establishments of the constitution.

2. It's not about the permit. It's the hassles and restrictions

Reading sections 9, 10 and 14 was somewhat related to this caveat. To say that to notify someone from the police office of an event 30 days ahead is somewhat hints of the inefficiency of the police side. It also contradicts one of the police slogans of "Mesra, Cepat dan Betul" we used to here many years before. In other countries, similar scenarios will only take between 5 to 10 days for arrangement. Myanmar has just beat us to it. 5 days instead of 30..what does that mean?

The main doubt on Section 10 is primarily about the time taken to make the arrangement. It's like the time taken for Frodo to journey from the Shire to Mount Doom rather than the time taken to walk into a 7-Eleven store and buy ice-cream. Apart from filling up the details, well it may take a few hours at the police station / snails pace to have the officer in charge fill in the details, ask this party, ask the other party and so forth before saying yes to your thing. Since we also face complaints of a slow response like for example after filing a complaint, we might as well do it away with Section 14.

3. At The Whim of Minister and Superior Police officer

If I am to summarize the whole thing after reading 15(2), 20 and 21, the thing is that if uncontrolled, the police - with certain zealous officers in particular - can act at their own whim. It's nothing more or less the same situation as seen in the Bersih 9 July rally. First hand accounts of how the police handled the case on the ground would tell you that.

There also have been cases where a permit has been issued but due to pressure from the other political parties, the permit was cancelled either at the last minute or cases of a permit refused for an excuse of security of safety but instead it is merely a ruse to score brownie points in NKRA.

Someone asked me recently why not of the bill and this is one caveat I would say it.

Likewise, as for the Minister, being the custodian of the bill, he / she at whim can decide, amend or change whatever locations that are considered to be forbidden to be used if the bill comes to effect. For this, 25(1) and 27 is somewhat inter-related in context to Sections 8 and 9.

Some Thoughts

1. Someone told me of quote from AC Grayling that "people are cowed into giving up their individual freedom rights (as enshrined and empowered by the Federal Constitution) to the authorities as part of giving them more authoritative powers in the name of national security". This is what is happening and a big fear for many civil societies particularly when the bill comes into effect soon. It's worse when it's being bulldozed all the way to gazetting phase.

2. The view of freedom and civil liberties to some people are pretty narrow. In fact Malaysia still remains in the guided-democracy state. This means that only a select group decides what is acceptable and can be said and what cannot be said / done. I often notice how some people talk like in that manner, I would think that they are foaming in their mouths.

3. Actually there is nothing new and substantial of having this bill It's merely a separation of Section 27 of the Police Act, expanded to become an independent bill but the difference is that of permit requirement. As I have said earlier, permit or not is not very important but the restrictions are. I often see the new restrictions like being in school. For instance, in the past, if you are to go to the washroom, you would ask the teacher permission to go at anytime you feel uncomfortable. Suppose if there is a ruling that students are only allowed to go to toilet from 3.15 pm to 3.30 pm, does that sound more restrictive to you or what?

4. I don't understand why there are certain quarters so hasty of having the bill. It's not about the argument of "we know best" or fulfilling your goal of reform, but as the bill will be debated next Tuesday, there should be more time for potential stakeholders to say yes or no. As of now, we have almost many societies that say no, so I was thinking, why they desperate in their hidden motive of whacking the those who oppose them kingdom come? I often think that the ulterior motive of the bill is to strip a person's individual freedom entitled rather than seeing the real civil liberty that should be.

This Is Not Democracy. It's Dictatorship

Remember the Titans was one of my favorite sports-themed movies where in the first part of the film, Coach Boone (Denzel Washington) was saying that line above to his team before they started pre-season training of college football. The line held me dearly and after reading through quickly the first reading text of the Peaceful Assembly Bill, I see that things are getting from bad to worst.

From my several observations these new measures seem to imply that we are no longer heading towards democracy and in the line of the real reform that Najib Razak was promising about. Instead, it was heading towards the other end, turning it into a police state. Think of the whole idea as the Big Brother system, which is actually happening right now. Everything you wish to do, has to be done way ahead, one month ahead. According to the draft, there are 8 conditions that must be fulfilled by any organizer before a permit can be issued. And to make it worse, the police, with its given powers will ultimately say either yes or no and like a dictator, their word is law.

Remember that not all human conventions and declarations mentioned in the UN Human Rights charter. So far, Malaysia only ratified two. They are articles against discrimination of women and another for children. But others were never ratified at all. In fact, Malaysia especially United Malays National Organisation has not acknowledged and even ratified the Human Rights Declaration. This is why till today there is still detention without trial, cases of third-degree interrogation in police stations resulting with people dead in custody, cops refusing to accept the IPCMC recommendations (see Malaysiakini's Dzaiddin Recommendations Ignored) and even people / authorities responsible for beatdowns walking away scott-free.

One paragraph from the Bar Council's statement can say how bias the tone can be in setting up:

This Bill, like section 27 of the Police Act, vests wide powers in the police, who are empowered to impose restrictions and conditions, and to disperse assemblies and arrest participants. The police’s past consistent and atrocious conduct in suppressing assemblies shows that it is crucial that the police change their mindset and abandon the culture of impunity in managing freedom of assembly. In other jurisdictions, the power to impose restrictions and conditions vests in the local authority or a procession commission.

The summary is that the bill is merely separating Section 27 of the Police Act out and making it as an independent act. Nothing more. Same wine, different bottle like the replacement to the ISA.

It is natural to see street protests everywhere throughout the world. To forbid such thing is to suppress people dissatisfaction when they are unable to voice through channels or all avenues of venting their problems have been exhausted. If you say no to protests, how can you answer the question of why the Bolshevik Revolution happened more than 80 years ago or why is there the phenomenon of Occupy Wall Street? You can't go against the nature. But the caveats, drawbacks and everything seem to point for one reason - an ulterior motive, I would say. As Aspan, my friend said sometime back, change is natural, no one can run away from it. (see here)

The powers vested to the Home Minister, the custodian of the bill in adding / subtracting prohibited places coupled with the discretion by the police in approving the permit or otherwise can be considered as dictatorship. So whoever says that Malaysia is a democractic place now seem to have been misled by those claims as it is actually more or less a guided-democracy and slowly heading towards a failed state.

The Bersih 2.0 rally has already terrified many people in pro-government, particularly those who screamed most - from United Malays National Organisation. The biggest fear, and the main factor of motivating them to clampdown is the fear that it could alter the existing political landscape. That's it and that's the main reason. Altering the political landscape means they ultimately end up playing second banana and losing the power they have been holding for the last 55 years. Otherwise, what could explain why have some people became paranoid with unfounded things, figments of their own imagination like Ibrahim Ali?

Who actually came up with the bulk of those things? AG? Cabinet? Nazri alone? Main party? Najib alone?

This is one of the "projek pembodohan" that is in the play. Many people saw this as an insult of intelligence from Najib thinking that the conditions and laws drafted in this bill will make people happy, but many think otherwise. It's not surprising that we can see many "butter boys" and "pembodeks" that will say sweet and nice things of the bill tomorrow in the papers and the online mainstream press. In fact I am ready to see it coming and it's likely that many naive people will fall for it, in the process become a bonsai plant.

I would like to repeat this question again. Can anyone of you imagine if you are among the 30000 people that ended up in prison for doing something that is part of your basic human right, doing something of a crime that is not written in stone or doing something that is morally right but considered wrong by the oppressors?

The Question That Was Never Answered

I have refrained from talking over the matters of the apostasy or the recent sexuality issue over the past few weeks because there is nothing much to say about apart from reading things of one party bashing the other party left and right that everyone has been talking about via press conferences, press releases and so forth. In fact, what Raja Petra wrote two days ago in his Cure The Cause, Not Symptoms piece actually underscores what I have been trying to say about in regards to the two problems above.

Most of you are focusing on and talking about the symptoms of the problem. All the comments you post are about the signs of the disease. And all your suggestions are about trying to cure these symptoms rather than getting to the root of the problem, the cause of the disease.

What both of them share in common is this both things: first, we Malaysians are very much of busy bodies in minding people's personal affairs and privacy until we have totally forgotten of the bigger problems we have. And then when disaster strikes, only we start to realize that we have been giving ourselves the wrong priorities. If people do not believe of the more bigger and evil problems at now, it is only after disaster that people would realize eventually. By that time, though it would already have been too late as a blot of oil / ink will have spoil the container of milk. I suppose this is already ingrates part of our local culture and while this is done, it also serves as a distraction to cover up bigger problems we should know about, not of keeping in the blue.

I am sure that many of us have seen how people react to the alleged apostasy case in the DUMC or the Sexuality Merdeka festival in a very nervous, kan cheong manner. There are people who claimed to be pious and deeply religious opened their mouths and screamed that apostasy is not allowed and those who did it should be punished..bla.bla..bla. Likewise those on the moment the Sexuality fest gets covered in the press, zealous people started screaming of why is there gays and lesbians in Malaysia, where there should not be one.

Equally the same thing as those who scream about is about the high handed actions by the authorities on those involved. For example, our number 2 cop immediately declares a ban on the Seksualiti festival and Hassan Ali for instance wanted the apostasy thing to be declared as a criminal offense outright not to mention on the extremes of those who wanted people involved in this to be stripped of citizenship and so forth.

Surely along the way, as I recalled these lines by Raja Petra:

What happened to live and let live? And why must everyone live according to your value system?

The trouble with both Christians and Muslims is: 1) they always think they are right and everyone else is wrong; 2) they always think they are pious and take on a righteous attitude; 3) they refuse to live and let live and everyone must live according to their standards; 4) they do not tolerate differences of opinion and regard those who disagree with them as the enemies of Christianity/Islam.

-- Small Things For Small Minds

No matter the claim of how pious people claim to be or the big mouth small brain thing, there's a question that people ought to answer but to this day remains unanswered: Why or What made would a person want to do that?

I once asked this question way long back when I said that there are flawed policies introduced because there is a lack of understanding of the human psychology there. If I am to ask you a question in that context, maybe I can ask you questions like why is online piracy still rampant or why is still vandalism on the phone booth? These kind of questions can go on and on. But we still have yet to give an answer.

Occasionally, I would come across or listen to replies with the phrase "God willing", or "God wills it" if you put it that way. In the context of the apostasy, is that problem happening because a person feels that God wills them to do it that thing? It can be that way or, as what Dr. Mohd Asri said before, was this alleged problem happening because we have been ignored by those from our own religion that we have no choice but to look for help from others not in our religion? What must be addressed if the answer is either one of the two above?

The basic foundation of any religion is that any religion actually does not force their ideals on to others. It just answers what the Small Things excerpt said above. Compulsion is a no no, so to speak. So, when I thought of the aftermath of the Himpun rally, which drew only a meager 5000 people, I was asking myself, are those people really got a big mouth but a small brain?

On to the Sexuality Merdeka thing. As what Marina Mahathir said in reply to the detractors, the goal was to help and educate those groups of people that have been discriminated or having problems in the context of the law, not to promote it as what the detractors have alleged. Why are they behaving or What made them to do it was never answered before the open their mouths. And so, when Ambiga, Maria or Marina responded back to the allegations made by TV3 or Ibrahim Ali, they are unable to respond to the three women. Now do you notice that a big mouth but a small brain like those two will put you in a hesitant result?

I know there are people who would not take kindly to such opinion and critique, insisting that what they see of the religions are right. But we got to ask ourselves first and put ourselves in the A.A mode before you start doing rash things like the persons would announce, okay? If you are able to provide a very very good answer (carved to stone grade) to those above, you then have a likelihood of curing the cause.

Eventually Squeezed and Discarded

In these prior few days, we are seeing another episode of a minister with national project, in this case the National Feedlot Project which is handled by her family. And while the case has been reported to the MACC, the MACC would then pass the buck to the police. Of course, normal people would not be happy of such way of dealing problems where an authority with the capability to investigate such possible mismanagement would not want to do anything (but still has the knowledge and expertise of handling) but instead hand this case to the police to do it.

I used to recall the funny moment of our then Iron Lady who was in the MITI ministry that was banging up and down about the AP thing. That episode was almost forgotten for many years then until this thing came up. This is a clear cut example of a minister and a politician who has also put interests in business even though as a minister, you are not supposed to do so. It also sounds unfair where you as a prominent person in United Malays National Organization gets to own pieces of this and there with ease at the expense of other people and parties who have been trying very hard to get such a project with the amount of resources and good reputation in hand.

You can call it jump queue if you want. But it also gives a statement that whatever that is morally illegal is allowed if you are a member of this party. Does it also say "okaylah, I close one eye, go ahead"? Maybe a few years ago, when people like myself start to enter the working world, near to the end of studying in school or in universities, I would see and read things of the party that keeps saying that through them their race rights would be preserved and taken care off. But what Sharizat and a few others are doing are clearly speaking otherwise - unless you choose to be stupid, ignorant and refuse to see the what is being laid at around you.

I was already certain from the beginning that the price is not the market price. Why the Auditor-General's criticism of the price was including the percentage cut demanded by those who want to get involved in the projects for the sake of money. If the project is co-insured or involved many other parties, with their demands of the cut included, of course the project cost will balloon high, at the expense of people's tax money, and borrowing of money from certain institutions as well.

There was a line from the first Lord of the Rings movie where the skeptical Gimli the Dwarf said during the council of Elrond argument "Never trust an elf!" Well, that was way before the friendship between dwarf and elf came evident in the next two movies. Recalling that line I thought of putting it in a very cynical way of never trust an "eee" for they cheat - though factually it is not entirely true. How can a reject that loses to Nurul Izzah in the GE somehow gets a ministerial post and then the Feedlot project? Answer is already there: membership card, and then main party being in helm for 55 years!

Here we are we have a party that still thinks that they are great and bragged about "defending Putrajaya at all costs, even with crushed bodies". There is still the need of clarification of "at all costs", does it mean that playing dirty with every dirty trick known in the book?

No matter how much defending is done for Sharizat by several people in the same party organization, like Pak Lah, Khairy and even the then agriculture now Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin, the damage from such allegation is already done. First, people will already start making noises of unfairness or starting to raise question of "what about us?". Secondly, Sharizat is already been made a scapegoat, expendable and a liability to the corrupt authority. That is to put to say, that she's squeezed already on all fronts and could eventually be discarded in time to come. And third of course, would be people asking, "now that she is a problem, then what about other people who shares the same case as with Sharizat?"

Now word is that Sharizat's exit is already in motion and in fact inevitable. If you are familiar with factions in UMNO then there's not much to be explained about. Team 3M is of course in favor taking her out already. That's one squeeze. The other squeeze is that there is a clash between Team Sharizat and Team Nong Chik on who is going to represent Barisan in contesting Lembah Pantai against Nurul Izzah next time round. Another word I got is that the NFC debacle is also kept smouldering alive for Nong Chik (also known as giving ammo) to beat Sharizat ahead in candidacy.

If the people starts squeezing her on one front while factions in UMNO are squeezing her on another front, then where does it lead Sharizat Jalil eventually? Imagine like a crushed can before throwing it to a bin - what does it tell you?

This cable was written by then U.S Ambassador to Malaysia James Keith in 2008, in view of the incident of the "conversion to Islam" forum held at the Bar Council. At the very last minute, Ambiga, then Bar Council president decided to put a stop to the forum after the intervention and plea by Pak Lah.

The Malaysian Bar Council attempted to hold a forum, entitled "Conversion to Islam," at their national headquarters on August 9. Included in the forum was a panel discussion of two high profile conversion cases involving the difficulties faced by non-Muslims in conversion cases related to religiously mixed marriages.

A hostile crowd of about 500 protesters assembled in front of the building, including representatives from the Pan-Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS), Anwar Ibrahim's People Justice Party (PKR) (including a Member of Parliament), the United Malay National Organization (UMNO), and Muslim-based NGOs. A group of protesters led by Peninsular Malay Students Federations (GPMS) Vice-president Jais Abdul Karim and PKR MP Zulkifli Noordin stormed the building shortly after the forum began. Police at the scene made no attempt to stop the protesters, but actually escorted them inside, where the demonstrators disrupted the proceedings, using racial epithets and other derogatory language and forcing Bar Council President Ambiga Sreenevasan to close the forum. The Fear and Paranoia

I was looking at the picture maybe a few times past few days ago. The picture seems to give a very direct impression of why Najib needs a large group of bodyguards surrounding his entourage.

I was wondering whether if this actually answers my suspicion that Najib and co have done so many activities of wrong conduct to the point that they are prepared to deny that they do it. Running the government on federal level is a much more heavier responsibility than running a state level. You got to take care of the 14 states under the federation that is called Malaysia.

Few friends often ask the same question as I do: why are there so many bodyguards, motorbike fellows surrounding the PM's convoy whenever if he has an official function or something? I don't remember Mahathir or Pak Lah having the kind of number of protection around them. If you are leader that is well respected by 95 percent of the population, then I don't even think Najib should be afraid of it.

But this could answer my hypothesis of: they deny it but they actually did it.

A few times, people also tell me of the saying "they rob but they hide behind their piousness". To describe it further, they plunder the people and the country's resources yet they go to the mosque and pray, to hide behind goodness. The problem is, either many of us are ignorant or we refuse to accept the fact that we're facing this problem but don't want to correct it.

English Debacle - Our Very Own Mistakes

As the clock ticks towards the reverting of Maths and Science back to Bahasa Malaysia next year, many groups like PAGE in particular have been asking to have the option of learning in English open even with Muhyiddin Yassin clearly stated that the PPSMI door is closed and final. It is already understood that there have been fears that children who had started to learn under the present mode could suddenly find themselves reverting back in an abrupt manner when they start the new schooling year in January. However, it was mentioned that the reverting would start from those who are starting primary / secondary school for that year. (i.e, those who were born in 2005 or in 1999). And according to Muhyiddin, the last batch of PPSMI are allowed to continue in the PPSMI until they finish secondary school.

However, to move back without a transitioning net can be a little difficult. The main problem is there are not many people who can teach Maths and Science in English. For the last 25 years before its introduction in the early 2000s, it has been carried out in Bahasa Malaysia. There have been assumptions that children, once finished school would proceed directly to local tertiary institutions where similar disciplines with the basics learned in primary / secondary school would be taught in the same medium: Bahasa.

But then, the reality has changed, with the need to communicate with the rest of the world, English has become very important - more important than Bahasa. Just because the overemphasis need of Bahasa for preserving the national identity outweighs the present realities of the world, we have already became handicapped, incapable of addressing the problems faced by everyone, non-Malaysians in particular who come here to communicate with government officials (I notice how annoyed my non-Malaysian colleagues can be when they had to deal with people from the government, e.g the income tax department whom at times can be difficult to understand their problems).

You have to give credit to China, when they realized that once they have been selected to host the Olympic games or they realized that they would be overtaking America and Europe, they waste no time to intensify the need to learn more English than ever, even than their own native Chinese, though there is a need to preserve their national identity. This is also the similar manner of why Singapore is far ahead of us - for they know of the need to face the realities of the world and be well prepared for it.

But what about us? We seem to be going against the reality and moving back to the steps of the dark ages. All in all, we are heading towards the losing end while there is an overzealousness to push for the Bahasa agenda. Technical work, including Information Technology discipline in particular uses English as it is used globally. Are we expecting it to be in Bahasa Malaysia? Try writing a simple program in C++. Does the compiler and language use BM words?

Not at this point. As what a DAP MP said, there has yet to be a global economic value for this language. No.1 is English, second is Chinese.

In fact, it is our very own mistakes and misjudgment that triggers this debacle.

The very first mistake was the switch to Bahasa started in 1974 with Dr. Mahathir was the then Education Minister. It was somewhat a misjudgement in his part as the cost of switching to Bahasa, many children, schoolchildren in particular seem to be in handicap of looking work Somewhat, this effect was only noticed until near to the end of his premiership. His suggestion of having the PPSMI in it merely only plugs the holes that were made by his 1974 decision. Prior to that, Malaysia bragged that they would have people that can speak and command a good level of the language like the British would do before independence. Now, we see it as a downward backward spiral.

The second mistake is actually our own. As parents, our common perception is that our own native tongue is more important than business lingua franca. Some parents shun national schools in favor of moving students to vernacular schools mainly because of the lack of avenue of having resources and time to teach native languages. There is also a misconception and a bias perception of parents taking a cold attitude of Malay teachers when interacting with non-Malay students (this has been seen in national schools). However, this side-effect can only be noticed upon finishing primary school education and transitioning to secondary schools. Mostly, a child who finished primary vernacular would have trouble in BM / English in secondary, which explains the handicap when coping with most subjects, at times resulting in a possible school dropout.

That mindset has to go off.

I do like PPSMI but I feel that PPSMI can take you up to a certain point. The bulk of the language you learn and speak from it are mostly technical in nature, with most some keywords you may come across like "calculus", "chemicals", "reactions" you name it. There's more of the need to know the speaking, pronunciation and grammar in real-life than the lobbying of the thing above.

The one way to start off is to "reverse the paper formats and exchange contact hours". A student would have been able to identify the standard and format of the Bahasa paper vs the English paper, be it in either UPSR, PMR or SPM, whereby the complexity of the former is tougher than the latter. Now how about if the complexity is swapped? In conjunction with that, the number of weekly contact hours of Bahasa in general is more than English with the ratio of either 3 to 2 or 4 to 3 in secondary school levels.

Maybe another way to help is to have the Education ministry go with a partnership with top language centers or the British Council to help sponsor holiday workshops to help children and teachers alike to improve the learning and teaching process of the language.

Comic books is actually one of the alternative materials that gets people to read with interest because it has the graphics that help put the person in reading mode, and the real-life dialogue style written by the writers reflects the naturalistic language that is spoken everywhere. It is actually one way to put into learning faster rather than having children go through study material that can be tedious and dull.

It's true that I hear the same answer that teachers are not so willing to teach in English because it demands mastery of the language in order to present it. Many teachers are more comfortable, having before it's introduction in 2003 in teaching BM. From here it's "the myth of the lazy native" all over again, lazing around unwilling to move one level above. And there's another mistake that we've been a\making: not willing to think and read.

I also see a possibility of a few ulterior motives of reverting it back. Some teachers and government staff may find themselves embarrassed by people who can speak English on the same level as the foreigners do, such that it can be the metaphor of a master upset by his disciple / servant. Along the way, it's also possible to see that for the sake of the Malay vote. But we failed to understand at what cost incurred at us for those votes? Politically, it is also said that this is a backstabbing of Muhyiddin at Najib, though I find that motive not really in related to the subject above.

In 1942, Stalin's slogan for Russia was "Not One Step Backwards". Moving one step backwards results in immediately shooting on sight. Students have become victims of the clash between concerned parents and ministry. This means in here, the Education Ministry is moving one step backwards as to make people stupid, unable to think creatively and express freely of what they have in mind. Isn't the controversial UUCA act making people stupid too as well?

I am keen to find out whether if Pakatan Rakyat has people who are well verse with education restructuring to correct the mistakes and holes that BN have created all the time along. Do they have one?

The Overprotectiveness of PAS

In light of the statement that Elton John is performing in Malaysia, PAS has been making statements of popular singer figures coming in to Malaysia and perform for the past all these years as somewhat promoting the "western culture that is wrong (in their definition)" among youngsters here. Elton John is not the only one that is also the target of PAS Youth, but past figures including Gwen Stefani for instance and a few others. To most people including fans in the world, the adjective of gay as what Elton John publicly declares is eclipsed by his popularity in pop culture given by his array number of hit songs / music that was performed in over more than 30 years.

What I am trying to point out is that PAS is in this case over protective of the people. It is like a overbearing mother who tries to keep a child inside a shell although it clearly defies the nature of curiosity inhabited in each and everyone of us. What is also underscored by their actions is that PAS still has yet to let people able to make their own decisions and having them to use their own discretion. This in one way is best to encourage people to think for themselves, not to show that "I know best, and I do it for you" thing.

To say that this is from the western culture is not entirely accurate. It is actually part of the capitalism culture - to make money, profits from it. Famous people come and perform here because of the demand from fans, with firsthand knowledge of how popular they themselves are. Simply use this on the Far Eastern artists that come here to perform. Aren't they on the same capacity as these famous artists do, until to the point where PAS has to bark up on that?

It is best for PAS to say "I let you decide" but they should not have a strong hand of intervention on this case. The more positive statement that they might say is "Look, we don't really encouraged you to get spoiled by their rowdy behavior but you make the final choice". What PAS do not understand that many youngsters are willing to pay extra money, like in Singapore dollars to go down the causeway to watch their favorite concerts, if there happens to be none performed in Kuala Lumpur. Since having performed here is cheaper than going down (considering the cost of food, travelling and lodging, not to mention the high exchange rate between the hosting currency vs our currency).

It's very hard to see a celebrity coming down once in a blue moon to perform here. To shoo a famous person off, in spite of noble intentions and despite a person with a famous popularity and reputation is to give a slap as the first impression on the artist performing here. As the saying goes, people don't forget on how you make them feel, even though they may forget and forgive what you would do to them. So, the real bottom line is that PAS Youth in particular should start moving away from its overprotective attribute of themselves and encourage people to let them think.

If it is not already enough with our present education system which churns out people to think and behave like a robot instead of encouraging a creative and inquisitive mind who is able to make better judgements and learn more by its curiosity. This culture, with the ulterior being to prevent a person to go rocking the boat because of the curiosity nature (a.k.a suppression) has stop here, if Malaysia wants to have a level up in its society, since we still have many lazy and submissive natives around.

PAS should go around and ask everyone, not just their own Malay youths on whether they like for instance Elton John music or they like people to come here or not. This is not the 1980s, but we're in the 21st century. Already PAS has taken a lot of brickbats from its hudud saga and they should not give more info for the enemy to hit them with such kind of issue. Aren't they aware of traps to make people's support for them to wane already?

A single malt distilled in one of Scotland's most remote distilleries has been named the world's best whisky by a leading expert.

Old Pulteney was crowned World Whisky of the Year in Jim Murray's 2012 Whisky Bible.
The 21-year-old single malt scored a record-equalling 97.5 points out of 100.

The whisky is matured in American oak casks and bottled at the Pulteney distillery in Wick, Caithness.

Whisky expert Mr Murray tasted more than 1,200 new drams before deciding on the winner.

He said: "The 21-year-old Old Pulteney absolutely exploded from the glass with vitality, charisma and class.

"Pulteney doesn't have the financial muscle of the major whisky barons to market its malts on the global stage.

"I hope that this award helps one of Scotland's great unsung distilleries to become discovered around the world."

Pulteney has a chequered past in the Caithness town.

New temperance laws saw the parish of Wick vote to end the public sale of alcohol in 1922, a ban that stayed in place for 25 years.

PAS Youth Bandar Tun Razak has just put up an interesting name card as seen above.

This case is in light of Professor Aziz Bari's suspension from the UIA pending further investigation. From what is understood is that several police reports, including one from Box Senator Ezam Noor have indirectly pressured the university administration into taking action. This doesn't even count Dr. Mahathir's statement of saying "Aziz Bari kurang ajar".

As what my friend Aspan said "telling the truth" and doing the right thing in UMNO is not allowed lest you faced disciplinary action. Aspan wrote the other day about taking action against the UMNO men before Professor Aziz. Another interesting quote by him shows: "Saya selalu berkata di dalam pimpinan UMNO dan BN bercakap benar adalah satu kesalahan. Berbeza pendapat itu adalah kesalahan. Jika sesiapa yang mengkritik secara berterusan akan ada sahaja helah untuk memberikan tekanan kepada seseorang itu."

By the looks of the card, it's not even photo manipulated.

First hand information from people enquired about this card shows that this man is in connection with Ahmad Maslan, the Pontian MP, cum Deputy Minister in PM's department. The question from the card, is why is this man from a political party (notably "Party Gerombolan") has a role in special affairs at a university? Look at the designation: "Ketua Unit Khas Hal Ehwal UIAM" and it can paint a picture of political pressure.

Can someone further enlighten this thing?

Our Obsession of Petty Matters

The debt can hit $1 trillion by 2020 claim by REFSA is a no joke. Malaysia is still presently thinks that they can spur the economy spending and spending till they realize that they would be broke ultimately.The budget has little to address the issue of reforming and restructuring the economy apart from fishing votes from lower class people. It has been found that despite the measures undertaken, little of improvement results has been noticed and the assumption that Malaysia can reach 5 to 6 percent in 2012 is overambitious with no safety nets (as what NMY said) to cushion a bad disaster should it happens anytime.

I don't even understand why BN would whack other people for their own mistakes whereas they didn't have the guts to admit that they have been making thousands of mistakes in the last 3 decades or so. There is the sense of vanity that the party felt, the thinking of having more power and omnipotence and the folly desire of running the country, in accordance to their slogan "Dulu Kini dan Selamanya". The slogan itself is contradicting the laws of nature that often says that "Nothing lasts forever", or "No one lives forever" or whatever similar phrases that are matching to it.

While Europe and America have been understanding the magnitude of the economic disaster well and fighting very hard to overcome the problem, we seem to be ignorant over it. Instead, there have been fights of the two political fronts to get one thing: Malay votes, as they form 60 percent of the total votes. We have been trying to voo Malay support with policies that are slack and backwards. But have we wondered at that we do those things at what cost? The cost of ill-prepared, a civilization that falls many step backwards than those who understood the realities of the world and those who want to move forward with the technological age seen right in front of our eyes.

I've been very critical of recent accusations from government of calling opposition the things that they themselves are really displaying. For instance, Najib was calling the opposition and its as Republican. But Barisan Nasional is themselves the Malaysian equivalent of the America's GOP party with their similar budget and policies. Muhyiddin accused the opposition of bankrupting the nation if they go into power, but it is they themselves that are bankrupting the nation with the lavish spending and the Keynesian policies. The policy of spend and spend to stimulate the economy is not working anymore.It is like accelearating the train even if it passes the gorge with no track. Also, Nor Yackop's statement of "Malaysia doesn't need Plan B" is very similar to what Najib said "our economic foundations are strong" or even what John McCain said. Incidentally, that's the statement that got McCain lost to Obama in the 2008 presidential elections.

As that Raja Petra said, we (and Malays in particular) have been so obsessed with the little things that we don't even care of the outside world problems that will hit us. Instead, there's gutter politics on attacking Guan Eng's son over a some of little petty and unfounded manner. Then there's always the problem of snooping people's things out of nothing. I suppose this is as what was the Malay village culture of snooping people's things out for the gossip pleasure. And here we have people started screaming on other people's religious affair of the apostasy. It's like minding people's business whereas it is already pass the boundary line of privacy.

People worldwide have been accusing the rich of pocketing too much while the middle and lower class have been screaming unfair share of the pie. What are actually doing now? We scream of inflation, low pay but yet we don't even bother? Is it the fear of biting the master's hand that is causing this? Why are we fearing that while on the other hand we're obsessed with small petty matters that are actually unnecessary at all? Neo-feudalism is still running rampant with things racial, religion and royalty being uttered everywhere

As I previously wrote, it takes one National disaster before people would finally realize their mistakes. Ireland is one. When the country went bust, people only realized and voted out the government responsible. Najib said that Northern Ireland is following the Barisan Nasional model, and that sounds equivalent to ending up with the same fate as Ireland. I am certain that in maybe a year or so, Malaysia can go bust and end up with Greece - excessive.

This minding petty matters thing that is happening has to stop at the dot, true. But right now, how can we do it when the whole situations is not working that well? I supposed that "The Myth of the Lazy Native" is still living around us, even it has been centuries since that culture happened.

Budget 2012: Fishing Like The Grecos

On Budget 2012, I was more interested in the number and the nature of the points that will be announced that are in individual basis, that is things that will affect on the individual capacity such as income tax reduction, or relief and so forth. By the end of the announcement at around 6 p.m, I made a rough count of 20 points that were mentioned in the budget. However, seeing how it was listed down, I have to say that it won't help much for a working professional, with just a few years out of the university life and into the real working world.

There were a few measures that can relate to the scenario above like allowing the First Home Scheme cap to go up to RM400K and compelling the employers to pay 1 more percent to their share of the monthly EPF for those earning less than RM5000 per month. The problem is, these measures are more or less plugging one hole but they overlook the other holes that have to be plugged.

To elaborate in the context of the two cases above, the house example poses problems for people particularly in the Klang Valley. For instance, where can we find and buy houses / apartments that fall in the maximum cap of RM 400K? Secondly, even if the scheme supports it, do we have the means to repay the entire housing loan in the longest loan period of 30 years? Many of us do not have the understanding of what Kiyosaki said in this kind of case before that a property purchased with a bank loan is not an asset. It is a liability and it will be until it is cleared. In the space of 30 years, coupled with yearly interest, the debt incurred will also be passed to the children as well. In fact when they are born, they owed government money because of the way the people's money was misused!

Compelling the employers to pay 1 percent more on EPF doesn't really solve the problems. It in fact gives more problems to employers. This is already in addition to the standard corporate tax of 25% that they have to pay. Asking employers to pay extra without something to compensate in the process is hurting business more, which based on the speech text, Najib doesn't seem to anticipate this problem here. How will business do if this measure eats more to the current operational cost? This is what some people running a business would be complaining about. And when the business doesn't do well, there can only be either three options: retrenching workforce, wind up the business or move the business to somewhere else.

Having counted the number of measures (snapshots in particular), a quarter of the measures listed are aimed at civil servants (e.g, mandatory retirement, increment of salaries, bonuses, etc). Then there are also one-off payments for ex-military personnel, book vouchers for university students, vouchers for primary / secondary students, annual increment of pension by 2%, what more? It's easy to imply that these things are more for fishing the support of civil servants, rural area folks and those in the low-income bracket for they form the big core number of support (in vote translations) for Barisan Nasional of course. This has already raised many doubts and nay says from economists, educated people with financial understanding, opposition party people that budget won't do good.

As if it is meant to entice support from civil servants and the shoring up of support of the BN butter-up boys, the budget is not to changed and reshaped the entire nation's present economic structure but just to inject crack drugs into its financial nervous system. When Najib said that the present forecast GDP was would be less than 6%, he in fact a shot himself in the leg. As it was commented during Budget 2011, in order for the ETP to work, the annual GDP will have to be at least 6% or more from the inception period until to the end of the ETP timeline program which is in the few years. But with the present crisis in America and Europe, it is quite hard to maintain that forecast.

And of course, the snapshots of the Budget doesn't show real reforms and restructuring. There is nothing new actually in what was announced. Some of the measures are considered recycled. They were once mooted in the last decade but because of opposition from the employers and the fallout of the Asian Financial Crisis 1997, some of the things were dropped originally.

When it comes to retirement, what is the actual ratio of retirement of people in private sector vs people in the government sector? If the incentives mentioned above are meant for those in civil service and those in the retirement, those in the private sector will start to ask where is the sense of fairness missing out. This would definitely spur the anger of why a person at the same age but working in the different sector gets more money to retire than those who work in private sector but get less retirement money. Was this never considered at all when putting the action plans of the budget into paper?

The formula of spending more and more stimulus measures to boost the economy could no longer work unlike in the 90s, in which Dr. Mahathir is famous for. This Keynesian concept is already ineffective, since as it was proven in America, the stimulus package that Obama signed has still yet to convince Americans, with the number of unemployed still around 5 million nationwide.

I was constantly saying in the last few days that Budget 2012 is fishing the civil servants and the low-level supporters like the Grecos do. Greek is already facing towards default and need of bailout because of the attitude of the previous government. Two causes have been identified behind their problems: one, the mismanagement and overspending of their coffers by the previous government and secondly, the high number of civil servants, although it already is a surplus to what is needed to run the government departments. Malaysia is in the direction towards the similar disaster, although many politicians like Najib and Muhyiddin showed the attitude of dismissing what is forthcoming in years to come.

The budget presentation is like injecting a booster. This means every time a booster is injected, like a drug, people start to crave more and more until they cannot stop. Why the youngsters in Britain and why people there riot in Tottenham a few months ago was simply because they were angry that they could not be fed with various measures usually the British government would provide them. When they don't give, they start doing violent things. If you put it in the way of not giving the drug to the person who has been addicted to it, you would see the strange behavior of a subject involved.

Will Malaysia become like Britain and Greece? Yes. In the years to come, with too many civil servants surplus to what is needed and the attitude of expecting yourselves being spoon feed all the time. These measures of introducing GSTs, (for example) are unknowingly what the economic hitmen would tell the Najib administration with a hidden agenda: to rob and cheat the country of the money. And it can be like the Indonesian scenario again.

We have to relook at the Budget snapshots and ask whether if it will help people in long term. There's absolutely none that addresses the reforms and provides outlines of long term problem solving. If for some reason you notice that there's something not right with the Budget (like not much help) but yet you still support them, then I do not have any other answer to explain the reason apart from the answer of "you got conned and duped".

The Passing of Steve Jobs

CNBC at 7.50 am local time announced Apple's Steve Jobs' passing. It is no doubt that given of his frail state from his battle against pancreatic cancer that Jobs has been away since early of the year until now.

I suppose that this last photo of Jobs shows how frail he was.

There have been two articles written prior to his passing. The first one is above, dated 28 August 2011 from Daily Mail UK while the other was from ABC News which documents about the regrets of adoption by his biological father

If there's one think the world has to thank Mr. Jobs for it is the iPod, iPad and the phone that beats Blackberry, iPhone. It's a sad thing that he would not be around to see the iPad3 and the iPhone5.

I happened to see a picture of David Cameron on a bicycle to work everyday. Makes me wonder whether if Najib should be riding that to work instead of sitting in a limo to go here and there. Gives the picture of "I am damn rich" and show off thing.

Oh yeah, I suppose our PM's expenditure stats can be scary as well, just as Anwar was claiming about.

Fear Mongering Like Queen of The Night

On the day before Bersih 2, I have written a piece, where the fears and threats of arrest of coming to the rally was like (or an allegory) to the obscurantism that the Queen of the Night preaches in Mozart's Magic Flute.

I wrote:

The Queen of the Night - a representation of obscurantism , in other words, the practice of deliberately preventing the facts or the full details of some matter from becoming known. This is ironically what is happening right now, where people are denied the knowledge of what they want to know. Instead, they were threatened with a charge of the Official Secrets Act if information is to be revealed. And this is why many people to this day has either no clue or they acted foolishly without the proper and sufficient knowledge. The aristocracy's obscurantism of the social problem's is the main factor the start of the French Revolution.

I also put in the Three Ladies as the agents of the Queen:

The three ladies of the Queen - Represents the agents that will carry out her order. The mainstream media has been ordered to do a smear campaign of Bersih. The main goal is simple: manufacturing consent, to create a consent among the simpleton minded (those like Papageno) that Bersih is a no good thing, without presenting the reasons why Bersih would do such thing. They would also twist to include statements from leaders who are opposed to the idea of clean elections.

As most of you are not aware, today and this year marks the 220th anniversary of the opera.

It was first debuted on 30 September 1791, just two months before Mozart's untimely death.

The problem right now is that fear and threats are spread around, yet people remain ignorant. The character of Papageno is an allegory to such attitude. I wrote:

Papageno - Tamino's companion, Papageno represents the foolish and the error of the people. These people are mainly simpletons, those who do not really bother about enlightenment and wisdom but just food, drink and companionship. In Act II Scene 5, the priests scolded Papageno because he will never know the enlightened bliss of the gods, but instead Papageno said, there are many unenlightened but happy. This is the danger of being susceptible to the danger of superstition and groundless fears.

How can we overcome such fear mongering like "eradicated rights" that people from UMNO and some NGOs would say that? It's from proper and right knowledge, enlightenment and not to be a lazy native. We too should start believe that such things spread actually do not exist. It is meant to scare people of going out of the shell and exploring the unexplored.

The plot of the opera is somewhat a metaphor of the mankind's progression from naive to enlightened being. To refuse such enlightenment is a one step backwards.

No need to elaborate further as what I've mentioned previously.

Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim today said the “Undilah” video was unsuitable for broadcast as it contains “subliminal messages” aimed at influencing viewers.

According to Bernama, the Umno minister said the clip, a 4.38-minute public service announcement urging Malaysians to vote, may offend to certain groups. He did not name the groups.

He added the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which reports to his ministry, had pulled the clip off the air but said the Home Ministry would make the final decision on whether to allow the clip to be aired on television.

“LPF (Film Censorship Board) does not come under my ministry but the Home Ministry, which will make a decision whether the clip can be shown,” he was quoted as saying to reporters after opening an arts appreciation programme in Pasir Salak near here today.

The MCMC had explained on the weekend that the video, produced by musician Pete Teo, was temporarily taken off the air as it was yet to receive approval from the LPF.

It however described the order as “normal practice” and said the decision had nothing to do with the clip’s contents.

Twitterverse is again on the buzz where more people and tweets go whacking Rais Yatim to kingdom come. It has been common knowledge of those guys out there that this man is a senile old man and well, even some of them have stated the desire of having him out of the Cabinet, if there is a reshuffle or if there is a new BN cabinet lineup after GE 13.

I don't really understand how he gets information that "people don't like Undilah". It is a statement that baffles the logic. In fact, it is high likely that he must have been wrongly advised.

Then again, Rais has been vilified by many people including the tech-savvy people and youngsters because of his senile believes. Internet filtering, Facebook, e-mail negative comments have all been given brickbats from everyone. In fact, since Rais personally refused to sign the additional funding for Namewee's Nasi Lemak 2.0, Namewee had to do and film his movie in less than 1 million and in 3 weeks. Were there were additional funding, there would be more time and utilities to do the film properly.

How senile can he be?

This screenshot shows the trend of people whacking Rais Yatim kingdom come. In other words? It's a "middle finger" for the old man. Some of my friends do went further and suggested that the bugger dropped from the cabinet post. Hey, everyone calls him a dinosaur. Even many of us see the picture of him of the "apologist" manner to Pak Lah a few years ago.

Actually, you can use common sense. It's just to tell everyone of the responsibility to vote. Secondly, if it is going to be PR-partisan, they won't have call Wee Ka Siong or Rosnah or Ku Li to be in the video. If Rais says anti-BN, then maybe he got it wrong. Does he really mean that to have people kept in the dark of the right can vote and not having the knowledge to do so? Sounds like "membodohkan orang Malaysia" ain't it so?

The numbers of people in response to his statement can keep on swelling and swelling. Perhaps he could end up in the same fate as Zainuddin Maidin sometime later.

Namewee Whacks Utusan

Utusan Malaysia released an article written by Fauziah Arof called "Bukan Nasi Lemak 2.0, Soalnya Namewee" which simply bashes the artist himself.

One of the paragraphs stated: "If given a free ticket, I don't want to watch the film even though it has a line of celebrities including Afdlin Shauki, David Arumugam, Adibah Noor, nor even watch it subscribe it on Astro First when the film is stop being showed in cinemas".

Who is Fauziah Arof the Utusan Reporter? Some people in Facebook have confirmed it:

This has not gone down that good for Namewee. In response to that, Namewee uploaded a video called "Fuck Utusan." The video was dated yesterday. At this point of time, there have been over 800 views, with an overwhelming 889 likes vs 13 dislikes.

Expect more brick bats from left and right with some for Namewee and some for the reporter.

Hudud: Socially and Mathematically Impossible

Nik Aziz's talk about hudud laws have sparked another round of fear mongering among Malaysians. It has already given PAS's arch rivals UMNO the ammunition to whack PAS kingdom come. This is exactly how PAS got whacked badly in the 2004 general elections.

DAP has made it clear that hudud was never in the CPF and threatened to quit en masse to show their vocal disagreement on implementing.

Some in PAS admitted that it's almost impossible. But the youth wings are showing hints of persisting.

IMHO, this is socially and mathematically impossible.

The people, non-Muslims in particular could not take it at this point of time. Two sets of laws, one based on the British-style common law and the Syariah law can sometimes confuse them.

You only need to look at the custody cases where a child is converted to a Muslim without the consent of the other as the case in point. Lina Joy's case is also another no no where two sets of laws govern them.

The other is by mathematical means. A pity and ignorance of the people still do not know that it is still mathematically impossible.

I've said it before, Pete has said it before, that you need at least 148 MPs to amend the constitution to use and implement hudud laws. But can PAS have 148 MP by themselves? PAS only contests up to 60 parliamentary seats, which is event less than 1/3 of the present total of 222 seats.

Even if they have the numbers, their partners would say no for the sake of other people.

I always have the mathematical believe that it's not likely to be implemented nationwide.

Tarek Fatah previously said that there is a distinction of Islam as faith along with other religions and Islamism as a political ideology where anything that do not conform to the desired view means must be destroyed / removed, particularly the western ideology.

This is the fear that many people would perceive in the present scenario with the scenario of the freedom of practicing faiths being trampled. Along the way, Pakatan Rakyat has conceded one to two goals on this. How can they catch up in the battle of perception on people?

There's no need to go further than seeing this in social / common sense perspective.

UMNO's Self-Caused Comedic Errors

I found it funny that after Mat Sabu raised his point on the Bukit Kepong, that UMNO started hopping like a mad man or like an old man as if there's another Cold War coming in again. But it is already past 20 years since the fall of communism and the end of the Cold War. The fall of communism marked the end of history, as what Francis Fukuyama declared in 1992, meaning that fascism as harken back to the days of Nazis and the Mussolini period of Italy is already over.

A few weeks ago, I have written a summary of Tarek Fatah's speech in Toronto, in which I highlighted two points below:

"2. Communism was destroyed in the battle of ideas. It took 4 decades by the year 1990 and 2000 communism was wiped out, the gulags were finished, people Russians found the freedom today to live under a different form of what is regard as a separate story. But we destroyed communism without firing a bullet.

3. Today we're fighting another idea of "fascism"that has shut our mouths and you can't speak because we're too scared that someone would turn around and calls us a racist. "

This is the problem we are facing right now in the context of Mat Sabu's highlight of the Bukit Kepong incident. Hardliners and conservatives in the ruling parties and NGOs have threatened to shut our mouths just because we have a different point of view, way of interpretation and believes. Compulsion is what is evident here - to force people to accept their version of events, history and to threaten those who have second thoughts or questions that raised from vague information.

I find it stupid to accuse a person of defaming a dead person. The pirates do have the saying of "dead man tell no tales", unless UMNO is able to communicate with the dead people by having the ability to speak to them or speak through God, in which is already over the top and illogical in thinking sense. Bringing out new information should have instead spark a series of discussions, debates, re-examining the histories that would distill more evidence and proper conclusion to the new theories brought.

For example, new theories of Mozart's death in December 1791 have sparked off debates and discussions, which is proper, instead of bashing people with different opinions left and right. With recorded testimonies and journals of Mozart's next-to-kin, (e.g, his wife Constanze) and statistics of diseases happened at that time, the conclusion came was much different to what was written in the official medical records at the time of Mozart's death. Mozart was found to be suffering from the "Wassersucht" disease (was called that in Austria).

In light of such incident, Waythamoorthy has offered to assist Mat Sabu of the declassified documents from English archives (in London) to establish information that colonial British government had actually armed the communists to engage in an armed conflict with the Japanese during World War II and had turned against the communists and banned the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).This, he said, forced the CPM leaders and members to go underground and launch an independence war against the British. If that is the case, then why is there MPAJA (anti-Japanese army) movement mentioned in our history textbooks?

Most people who made the allegation at Mat Sabu are many who still has the Cold War mentality. Such error is equivalent to what is describe as bringing back the ghosts and specters of the past. These are just one part of the total comedy of errors committed. You see this the problem of people who read distorted history and never bother to read or differentiate further. Perhaps the compulsion of having UMNO's version of history shoved in the syllabus could be why most simpletons would say such thing now.

The other one? It's on the AG and the print media called Utusan. An ex-judge said this below:

Why are the police and the Attorney-General so concerned?” “Utusan Malaysia has written many defamatory things in the past and yet no action has been taken against it. That speaks for itself.” Sounds like Utusan and UMNO instructing the court to charge Mat Sabu for something that is nonsensical right?

This whole thing is a like a bear devoted to its master. If a fly lands on the owner's cheek whilst he's sleeping, the bear would slap it. Of course the fly is killed but the masters' face is damaged by the bear's attack. In this case, Najib's pledge of reform and not accusing people of different ideology on the night of 15 September got a slap in the face by the AG! And since the AG has been noted of making unnecessary calls including appeal over something that can't much be generated, isn't it supposedly that AG be separated from the prosecutor's office?

My friend used to say "more rope for them to hang themselves" or "shock sendiri" so there's plenty of comedic errors to be noticed there...apart from the funny skits of "cops in twitterverse..."

It's Nothing New. It's A Fallback.

Rethinking the slew of Malaysia day measures announced by Najib, the first thing that came across my mind was that Najib should have done it as soon as he took over office, not to leave it until late and after 2 1/2 years to say to do away with it. Pretty slow was the adjective I wanted to say it out as my one-word comment.

Well, I've been in the writing block lately, can't even put a 500-word posting as to per my norms. This at least could be the reason why I've been slow and not even write posts on the day to day basis.

The slew of first-step reforms that Najib announced was nothing really new. I always have the certain reason to believe that it's a fallback for Najib. There have been plots, internally within UMNO to have him kicked out and the Mahathir faction is definitely the source behind it. His number 2 was found to be doing things the complete opposite of what of his intention. Sure, you do not see this in the public eye, in privately and internally, yes. And should the day comes when Najib is out via party elections or otherwise, the goal of getting middle-class support and those on the fence would be the cushion and the fallback step for Najib.

And just the last few days, it's the unveiling of the Mr. Cool attitude Najib. A picture of moderation, and a visit to top radio stations to get support from the urban audiences on radio, and those thing; I keep hearing a repeat of the opening bars of having a image consultants to really improve the shape and image of Najib. And of course I read of a familiar name in PR and APCO - the Staedlen fellow and those who shaped up Tony Blair's image - it's just the same thing except new faces. The other two PR companies had to be moved out because of prolong accusation from the opposition and those who have started making second doubt voices about it.

I sincerely have second doubts to see the Mr. Cool attitude our PM. I am sure that the abolish ISA subject has met the opposition of those who wanted it still. But it demonstrates one thing: - immaturity and the unwillingness to move on with the current 21st century setting of those people. If someone were to ask whether Ibrahim Ali is also included in the "immatures" group, then unfortunately - yes.

The announcement is actually incomplete. There are still pre-Merdeka laws that have yet to be removed: Sedition act for instance. I did say before that Britain has already removed the act at the start of 2010. Then what about the other emergencies like 1969? It's 42 years already. Not likely to happen anymore with the power of Internet. If used for good, we can ascertain whether if those rumors spread on the street are true or not.

There's nothing new or something to be cheered upon, if you really look carefully from the whole picture. Najib's announcement was overdue by 2.5 years already. I've heard of the things promised on the fateful night of April 2009, when he took over the PM's post from Pak Lah and there was nothing to be excited about.

What will to the plans and programs laid by the present government if they are kicked out by the opposition in general elections? Chances are 80 percent that you can't just cancel outright, but at least there is a need to scrutinize what is done so far before taking the next action.

Whatever the thing happens now, it's a matter of time before more of the bickering, not just in PR that the media is highlighting about, but within BN that will be unfolded by its own accord.

Who's Really Selling Malaysia Out?

It's a good guess as mine that an admission by the Bangladeshi PM that the citizens were given right to vote in the possible next general elections. The forthcoming problem facing by the ruling government is that they risk facing losing power that they have held over the last 55 years and counting. Period. When they lose, all contracts that they are entitled including wealth and privileges are no longer in their possession as if they are taken away passwords and access to treasury and computer files.

Penang and Selangor are examples of how they have suffered when the gold mine and the big deposit boxes of Malaysia have been taken away by the opposition coalition. And you have seen how they have been screaming left and right until the foam forms in the mouth of the United Malays National Organization people. Najib has been moving around, notably, in Penang recently, at Anwar Ibrahim's turf - I suppose it is to make a taunt at Anwar of the likelihood of going to jail in the next few months or so.

There is an understanding that rural people and Malay support will not alone help the BN to win with a bigger majority. And so there's this theory of getting the Bangla people to support them in exchange of citizenship. Not only them, other foreigners as well.

While they have been using Pakatan as their punching bag, bashing one thing after another and even accusing them as anti-Islam, Jew supporter and other monikers that they can think off, they too even do not know that they too are actually the same thing as what their accused the rivals do - perhaps all to shake off the tag and divert the public's attention. Getting more of these kind of people, just as to cheat in elections is also part of selling Malaysia out indirectly.

That's right. That's only one...and Malaysia unknowingly have been selling themselves out to corporations or doing things that economic hitmen would suggest them to do - to cheat the country more money in addition to the present national debt incurred by the country.

Earlier in the year, Mahathir had said that the Malays in particular are those who are staunch anti-Israel people, that is putting their support on the Palestine. However, when it comes to their rights and entitlements, they meekly give it away to the third parties including corporations. I had seen a documentary of the Orang Asli who have been starting to reclaim their native customary rights to the lands. The new lands act that was enforced on them was very unrealistic, as it dictates that the amount of land entitled is depending on the size of the state.

Refusal to accept the conditions of the big would consequently give in grim results. One case I often recalled was the controversy and the conspiracy behind Omar Torrijos plane crash. They said that Torrijos preferred Japanese interest over American interests, in which John Perkins in his book said some American business leaders and politicians strongly opposed the negotiations between Torrijos and a group of Japanese businessmen led by Shigeo Nagano, who were promoting the idea of a new, larger, sea-level canal for Panama - Noreiga said this of course provoke discontent among American business circles.

The similarity is identical to the Fuad Stephens plane crash as well. Stephens had already been very skeptical over what will happen should Sabah decide to join the Malaya federation. Likewise, of the case during the inception and the year after the Petroleum Development Act 1975 was passed. Could Stephens independence streak angered some quarters that there was conspiracy to get rid of him at that time? The circumstances noted in both Torrijos and Stephens is there to show.

Now let's go back to the point. The case of giving voting rights to foreigners in exchange of retaining power, doesn't that fit in this case? What can the opposition do much when you are the government of the day and still you keep pointing fingers at them for your own mistakes? At what cost would we incur for the sake of getting the predominant Malay support? So if it turns out there the party claims to be protecting all races and rights as they have been shouting but doing the inverse, that is selling the country out then why do we keep supporting them when we know that they are clearly in the wrong?

Overcoming The Mind Control Problem

Two pervasive mentalities stand out among the chief culprits. They are racial and religious supremacy.

Racial supremacy expects non-Malay citizens to be eternally grateful to the Malay race for granting their forefathers citizenship at Independence. It demands from the non-Malays unquestionable deference to the Malays, their culture and arbitrary declarations of Malay rights or privileges.

Religious supremacy is the conviction that the Islamic belief is superior to all other beliefs and that it is the only path to true spirituality. Its adherents must not compromise on officially stipulated Islamic ideas and practices and cannot opt-out of the religion. Non-believers are fodder for conversion.

A set of underlying reasons drive these mentalities. Political motives aside, there is a historical fear of disenfranchisement; a concept of entitlement as an exclusive birthright; envy; low self-esteem; a craving for a source of self-pride; a fear of the new or alien; meekness; and narrow-mindedness.

Supremacism is sold as the cure-all. But it only adds to the problem.

The projection of cultural or religious might becomes a pretext for the powerful to impose conformity and thereby control upon a majority. Behind the false security of religious dogma or ethnic nationalism, it is spiritually and psychologically defeating. It turns what should be a happy bazaar of exchange between cultures into a cautious tightrope walk. It sabotages nation-building, whatever the unifying slogan or initiative devised.

Consider how this plays out in Malay-non-Malay relations.

The ordinary Malay in Malaysia is kept at a near constant state of anxiety by the tirade about the non-Malays seeking to usurp Malay political and economic rights. The Malays are repeatedly called on to be united in the name of race and religion to fend off this imagined strike. To alleviate his insecurities the Malay is offered:

A political guarantee that national policy will be dictated by the Malays (or Muslims) and economic concessions in the form of government jobs for the unemployable etc. These are promised in exchange for support for certain political parties and obedience to hierarchy;

Supposed spiritual salvation by thorough religious submission. This is codified in law, taught in religious education, enforced by religious bodies and reinforced by social and peer pressure; and

Financial incentives such as easy loans and credit for material intoxication by retail therapy and a temporary relative wealth effect vis-à-vis the non-Malays.

There is no commensurate effort to unleash the Malay mind and encourage the Malay person to seize the day, excel, question, take charge, propose or dissent. Political leaders and the religious bureaucracy do not favour this; an empowered people puts at stake their political influence and economic privilege.

For both the Malay and non-Malay communities:

(a) The non-Malays must treat the Malays as fellow brothers and sisters, with dignity, understanding and compassion. Effort should be made to communicate and interact with, not shun, the Malay community.

(b) The Malays must reciprocate. In addition, the Malays must rightfully regard their non-Malay brothers and sisters as equal citizens.

(c) To overcome cultural hypersensitivity. To be tactful in making suggestions or be gracious in receiving

suggestions pertaining to the so-called ‘sensitive issues’ (for example, matters relating to places of worship).

(d) To cease to see the preferences or cultural particulars of another community as slights or threats. To cultivate instead an appreciation for the value of diversity. To be able to partake in the festivities of any community without excessive anxieties or scruples.

Najib announces repeal of ISA, three emergency declarations

Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced tonight the repeal of the Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA) and the three Emergency Declarations when both the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat have their next sitting.

The prime minister said that new laws will be enacted to protect the peace, harmony and security of the country.

He also announced that the government will do away with annual printing and publishing permits with permits that can be cancelled if regulations are flouted.

Najib acknowledged in his address to the nation on the eve of Malaysia Day that the move to increase civil liberties was “risky, but we are doing this for our survival.”

“No individual will ever be detained simply due to political ideology,” he said in his speech that was broadcast live on all local television stations.

The move to scrap the law has been hailed by ex-ISA detainee and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as “an epochal move.”

The Barisan Nasional (BN) chief said that two new security laws would be introduced for preventive detention which would be limited only to cases of terrorism and “ensure that basic human rights are protected.”

Najib said that under the new laws, detentions could only be extended by the court and therefore “the power of detention will be shifted from the executive to the judiciary, unless it concerns terrorism.”

Before a studio audience of 800 including his entire Cabinet, he also announced that the Banishment Act would be repealed while he will do away with the need for annual publishing permits under the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA).

I once said before that it takes a disaster for the country to realize its mistakes. And by the time they realized that there's the need of having a reform, it is already far overdue already. For instance, when Bersih 2.0 decided to launch it's campaign to make a statement to the government of the necessity of election reforms, many - especially the government's butter-up boys do not really believe in their claims and instead, misguided by the MSM papers including Utusan were made to believe that they are about to start another 13 May 1969 incident.

And that allegation came unfounded. But it is only after they noticed that 1700 people arrested and how the cops handled the situation, with the directive from they themselves, they realized of the terrible mistake that they have committed. They only then also realized that they cheated themselves into believing that there was to be another riots or so. They didn't even trust themselves, like a dog being duped by it's own reflection on the pool..and so decided to embark on the reforming thing that they've spewed out on the news.

The ISA abolishment was also another thing overdue. When the anti-ISA movement decided to protest in the streets August last year (that's to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its inception), the government refused to believed in that thing and the GMI's demands, thinking they can handled on their own terms. Scores of people arrested, roadblocks here and there, well of course I've kept some pictures as to remember that incident. With more and more people pressuring the government, it became imminent and evident that even amending the ISA is totally impossible. But it took more than 20 years since the cession of arms against Malaysia by the CPM to realize that ISA is already irrelevant.

Many people still do not understand why ISA has to go and in fact some people including those in Perkasa think that ISA is still needed for something that is illogical like Malay rights. However, many are not aware that there's no such thing as abolishing ISA without something to compensate, right? With the specter of 9/11 around us, of course there has to be something to replace it and of course people have proposed a new Anti-Terrorism bill in its place. As what Nazri said, the bill is for real terrorism. This missing piece of information is one of the causes of bro ha has that foam in the mouths of those people who complained about removing ISA.

With people getting angry over the EO6 episode, what is much more necessary of putting the EO 1948 off coupled with the close to the 80 year old Restricted Residences (a.k.a Banishment) act for good? What...applying a more than 60 year old laws into the 21st century scenario? Somewhat doesn't fit like big engines into a small car?

Connecting the dot from that above is the official end of three declarations of emergency. I suppose that many people and politicians have forgotten about it, with many assuming that the 1989 ceasefire automatically ends it, but there were no proclamations until 22 years later where they finally realized that they have overlooked that matter. It took lawyers and civil movement pressure to get them to come into their senses.

In spite of all that, there are still things neither never mentioned or partially mentioned that raises questions from other quarters. For instance, the publications permit - whether it can be challenged in court after the annual renewal condition is removed. However, people still bash Pornstar Chua over the need of having online publication permit - this guy is one hell of a jester in this point. Talk about another Rais Yatim thing that is.

I am bit unclear about this amendment to the notorious Section 27 of the Police Act. Demos usually happen if whatever statements that is to be sent out are totally ignored by the government of the day, so generally it is theirs to be blamed. Bersih rally happened because of government ignorance, otherwise how would those unnecessary police ruckus happened on that day? I would definitely would want to see and read more of the amendment ideas before talking more.

Unfortunately, the AUKU 1971 act was never mentioned and this has raised dire questions from university students who felt the need to have more active participation in the present issues. They were asking "what about AUKU". Sedition Act remains one of the archaic laws that has yet to be asked then.

I look at some of the statements and thoughts by other people in regards of this in online avenues. Some good, some disagreed but I have the thought that this could be one something else that motivates the reason of Najib Razak doing such thing, that would be discussed later. Since these things are to be brought forward to the Parliament when it reconvenes next month, I have the feeling that it could be well opposed by some of the MPs in his front, who are also UMNO warlords and those who have a different opinion of his statements. If most of the Cabinet ministers were in the studio where he made the statement, it's likely that most of them have already agreed to follow the ship's directions, albeit a few, probably.

Ibrahim Ali has also been making noises but when the government finally realizes their mistakes and started doing things, he has been quiet over this subject or so. It's my gut feeling that he could be making noises tomorrow to show his disagreement over what Najib would say.

Anyhow, it's about time, too long already.
