Two Cents for The Doc

It's just two days into 2008, and the government had its first hiccup.

I should have guessed it earlier on New Year's Eve of the identity of the minister mentioned in the sex video. Hint: Johor. It's the Malaysian style of Nixon episode going on here.

A very interesting fact that I was told sometime ago is that Dr. Chua was used to be my friend's ex-neighbor in Batu Pahat - he had run a clinic there as a G.P before going into politics - My friend lived in Batu Pahat until the age of 18 in 1994 before moving to Petaling Jaya. Dr. Chua has three children, and his only daughter his younger sister's best friend.

Okay, it's enough of involving my friend, but it's like giving a POV opinion. I really notice that, because of his medical background, he has been very proactive in running the ministry compared to his predecessor Dr. Chua Jui Meng, initiated various health campaigns to ensure proper health watch over all citizens. Here's one example: He proposed of labeling and banning fast food ads for kids because the content of fast food can be bad for children. Too much body fats, calories, encouraging bad eating habits and so on. More hospitals are built and variety of things.

The one thing that I kept noticing on my side is that in the total of 20 minutes of ads no less than 5 ads from the Ministry of Health appears in a one-hour show prime-time on the RTM channels. I had the count last Friday when I watched a local TV show. Correct, correct, correct.

Sure, you know that he was the one offering a helping hand for the Namewee saga to help them facing the UMNO music.

I have to agree that there are people out there to bump him off from the politics game - someone who hopes that he doesn't contest in the next elections. But sometimes, playing dirty would be a way to, shall I say, get the attention of attention-seekers if your lamenting via official channels were totally ignored. A politics game is always one of the double-edge sword games that a person has to play. I think it was better to do it by himself to quit all posts rather than getting the black and white statement from the High Council (see Malaysiakini).

Admitting to the sex scandal and resigning from that can be a painful but a honorable thing. The first thing is that it sets a standards of what a good leader should be rather than hiding in cowardice. Secondly, it tells people and those who wish to be in politics to hold a very big responsibility.

Perhaps it will be a good long break for Dr. Chua.

Were It Not For Blogs...Part 1

I asked myself over the last two days whether it is we bloggers are the ones that brought some of the interesting things that we speak online / blogs to the attention of the prime media and as well as some of the government people.

I don't have a good answer to explain this but the prime media and the government took cue from us to report the news to the other people who do not have computers at all.

Here's one or two examples:

Scenario 1:

Raja Petra Kamaruddin (Malaysia Today) posted a series of blogs which forms part of the series: "The Corridors of Power", in June. Part 1 of the story: All Roads Lead To Putrajaya, dated June 3 has some interesting revelations which was shared today.

Today's Star paper article: Top anti-vice cops moved out

An interesting extract from the article refers to RPK's article:

Sources said that one of the kingpins in the state is a self-proclaimed Tengku involved in gambling and prostitution.

They said the local police had been unable to shut down his operations as he was well connected and protected.

“His syndicate has also warned policemen that they will be removed if they tried to interfere in his operations,” sources said.

Sources said that Bukit Aman tried to shut down his operations during a major operation against his gambling network in March when they raided two houses in Taman Sentosa and Taman Puteri in Kulai.

“In the simultaneous raids, special teams from police headquarters arrested 17 people and recovered more than two dozen fax machines taking in bets amounting to millions of ringgit,” the source said, adding that despite this, the “Tengku” is back in business.

The self-proclaimed Tengku is known as the underworld kingpin of the southern state of Johor. Please read the first article - "All Roads..." for the better elaboration of RPK's commentary of that.

Part 2 of the series: The Roaches Are Scurrying and The Rats Are Hurrying dated June 9 actually points out of IGP Musa Hassan's allegation that he has establish connections with the Chinese underworld.

However the response of the article came in three weeks later in the wake of the increase rate of crime in the southern state of Johor. Yesterday, the article written by RPK reached the attention of the DPM Najib Razak.

Quote from The Star dated yesterday, July 1:

The Deputy Prime Minister’s office will find out more details on allegations that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan accepted bribes and of his alleged involvement with underworld figures.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he was not aware of the postings on a website involving the country’s top police officer.

“I don’t know about the allegations. Let me check,” he told reporters after attending the ground-breaking ceremony of the Universiti Malaysia Pahang’s permanent campus in Kuala Pahang, near here, yesterday.

On Saturday, Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom was quoted by a local Malay daily as having said that the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) was free to investigate Musa over the allegations.

RPK's article in Part 2 writes that Deputy Internal Minister Johari Baharum was a sacrificial lamb or being blame boy of receiving $5.5 million in bribes in pressuring the release of three suspected underworld figures held under the Emergency Ordinance Act.

I asked myself a few times whether it is we that should deserve the credibility and acknowledgment for doing our part to report truthfully, tactfully and more importantly accurately about things that people should know. Maybe it is time for the government to recognize the importance of blogging. I still asked myself whether there will be that bullshit recurring again - referring to the blogger classification thing that Uncle ZAM said before.

Runaways From Fiction

This following news is a news update bulletin issued by The Ministry of Magic, Britain
To be issued to all law enforcement agencies Muggle and Magic Ministry worldwide

We have reasons to believe that the two of our British magic citizens going by the names of Ginevra Weasley and Rubeus Hagrid had violated magic security protocols laid to deter potential Muggle intrusion into our society by spreading information deemed confidential by the Ministry to people in contact with both of them.

See the following mugshots for a clear identity of the runaways.

Ginevra (Ginny) M. Weasley

Rubeus Hagrid

Miss Weasley, in addition is declared a juvenile runaway following a verbal clash with her parents, Mr and Mrs Arthur Weasley six weeks ago. Mr. Hagrid however has severely injured two of our Ministry Magic Enforcement Officials in a skirmish for his refusal to be taken back to the ministry for interrogation.

According to our recent information discovered from our Magical Enforcement agency of our friends in America, we have discovered that the two of them
had been in hiding and masquerading using other aliases. The following photos
did prove that they are in America. It was taken by an undercover agent three weeks ago. These two fugitives are keeping their guises under a heavy dosage of Polyjuice Potion. Their aliases are:

Ms. Virginia Katz

Mr. Allen Daviau

Be advise though that both of these fugitives are armed and extremely dangerous.

The ministry is offering a $5 million reward upon information leading to the successful capture without termination of these two fugitives. If you encounter, do not go toe to toe with them. Instead, please notify a police officer or contact Mr. Percy Weasley or Mr Rufus Scrimgeour or Ms. Dolores Umbridge directly at our hotline: UK 62442.

Your co-operation is much appreciated.

By order of,
Rufus Scrimgeour, OBE, CDR
Ministry of Magic, United Kingdom,
April 1 2007.
