Election, but When?

Yes, there is a clear speculation that the next general elections are coming around the corner. But the question remains of when it is likely to be held.

The first sign of election is coming soon is that there is an UMNO assembly from 7-9 November which is likely to discuss of postponing of party elections for the sake of this. The second sign is that there is a one-day forum that includes all BN MPs and state assemblymen all in one roof, a postponed meet that was delayed at the very last minute.

Interestingly, as according to RPK, the BN has upped the ante for the next general election. Their main aim is to achieve victory, zero opposition, meaning a clean sweep of 219 parliamentary seats and a total sweep of state seats. Their focus is likely on Kelantan and Terangganu with the former more attention as they wanted to regain the state that fell to PAS hands since 1990. Johor is a unique exception for it is the only state in Malaysia to achieve clean sweep in the past election - of course UMNO originated from Johor!

In this case, they are preparing to play dirty together with the Election Commission. As part of the BN's double helix program called Blue Wave and Zero Opposition, the commission has moved voters, foreign voters from elsewhere into key states like Sabah, and the Eastern Peninsular. If that is not enough, in Perak, this is also the case. The case in point is that 5159 out of 8463 voters are added to the total number of eligible voters for the Ipoh Timur Parliamentary seat. Clearly, the BN want to cash Lim Kit Siang out, with part of it is due to the fact that BN lost Ipoh Timur, Ipoh Barat and some seats to the DAP. And I am caught inside it because I am one of the 8463 new voters of Ipoh Timur!

So you can see that the election is rigged. Coupled with the black boxes where votes are kept. Who knows that the box can be swapped for another box somewhere else?

Now back to the dates. As Big Pete further added, the dates of elections are auspicious ones because Bedol had got the consultation from a feng shui master. Funny? No, for it was the same man who suggested March 21 2004 as the election date.

The dates suggested were either 25 November, 15 December and 15 March 2008 (March of Ides, anyone?). I don't really know whether 15 March is a good date or not, for on this date many things happened like Caesar's assassination, the abdication of the Nicholas II and so on.

At least we get to be relieved that a report by Malaysiakini states that election is unlikely to be held by this year. Simple, the MCA and Gerakan are not ready to put their minds into election. Maybe it's after Chinese New Year, then it is likely AAB is going to throw a snap election. But then, to dissolve a Parliament requires consent of the king. The king has the right to defer or say no if the 5 year term is not up yet. But the BN is pressuring the king for consent.

Simple thinking:

1. They know Anwar Ibrahim is eligible for politics after April 2008. They hope to keep him out by holding it before April.
2. They want to make sure that the next government will not be challenged by anybody, meaning that they can do whatever they feel like it after that.
3. They want to win back the hearts and confidence of the Chinese, for they know that their support of the government is deteriorating. So does the Indians.

So what are you going to do now? In response to Zorro and Haris' latest posting, which also calls me out as an Ipoh Timur voter, seems like I need to write a mail to the EC for proof - as soon as possible.

Playing The Card Called Race

I had a talk at lunchtime with a friend of mine, who admittedly said that there is nothing worthwhile or glorifying by sending a man from Malaysia to space. But as while we are having food, he did raise an interesting subject of what will happen in the next 10 years even before Vision 2020 with this kind of political situation in Malaysia.

I as a non-majority Malaysian together with other loving Malaysians will end up being squeezed by the corrupt people of the Bolehland and the so called UMNO shadow policy of 'Malay Dominance'. I wondered where would I be right now in the society that is ruled by people that has third world mentality. I wondered if we should blame ourselves for picking the wrong person to run Malaysia by choosing Abdullah Badawi in the post-Mahathir period.

The summary of problems in Malaysia: (with help from Malaysiakini)

You have many problems here, judicial, economy, poverty, citizen discomfort and everything. While the public suffered, those in the elite corrupt rich group are the ones that tend to drink the blood money of the people - tax payer's money. Ronnie Liu asked a question the other day, why an F grade contractor who was found to be non pro-government affiliate to be blacklisted? A senator by the name of Puad Zakarshi is an example of a racist man that wants to kick candidates out by the alignment card. Tenders offered should be given to the best of the lot! NOT by race, not by money, not by alignment, but the ability to get the job done.

We had a hunch that after Raya, the government might consider increasing the price of petrol, toll and any other things that will tax us a lot in future. Come on. Only once in the Mahathir period that the petrol price went up to 1.42. How many times in Bedol? Thrice! $80 million of tax payer's money were used for sending a man up to space and then tax more from the people?

The Bolehland guys knew that Anwar Ibrahim is free to enter back to the political arena after April 2008, which is why the BN is kind of desperate of throwing a snap election probably by March after the forum meet was delayed. The idea of having a BN rep forum initially scheduled for next Sunday was part to discuss the strategy for election and to counter blogs that can say be posing a threat to the coalition. Blogs are just one side, but opposition is another side too.

Previously, I've mentioned that Malaysia is losing out to other nations in Asia like Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Australia and even India. The main reason is clear: because of the economical policies, some of them are race-based and some are ridiculous. The pure example is the affirmative action policy like NEP. It can be a tool that can benefit or cause injustice to the others. To get a job in Shell or to get a Shell franchise license, I discovered from someone, that the way of selecting candidates is by the unfair quota they set over minorities. When I finished university, I tried applying to Shell, but was rejected in the second round because of that. When it comes to selecting the two finalists, the other third man, an Indian was taken aside in favor of our final two candidates. In jobs, why not RapidKL offer jobs to other people in Malaysia instead of bringing in Indonesian workers and offering them PRs?

Back to economics, Singapore's founding father Harry Lee felt that Malaysia can improve if the economic and social policies are based on meritocracy, disregarding of race and creed. To award the contract or a tender to person who can't do the job but because he's got a special privilege over a person who has a solid reputation of getting it done and correct is to show how ignorance and lack of awareness by the corrupt ministers and officials can plunge Malaysia into an irredeemable abyss.

I felt that it is an embarrassment and a disappointment for people who really looked forward to watch Beyonce performing in Malaysia only to have her shooed away by Muslim student groups who make much more excuses in dress code than those in Indonesia. People especially youngsters are much more flexible and no longer strictly rely on the rules of religion. The rules of the religion is just a guide to life and many perceived it to be laws of country. These idiots out there also demonstrated the lack of respect for other people who wanted to go for a concert. The answer is simple: if you don't like, don't go and don't hear. Let the others go, watch and listen. Simple. But instead, the race card was played and the mob mentality was shown by idiots - Idiots who simply think that Wee Ming Chee, who produced the Negarakuku video is mocking them whereas the message conveyed to them is to realize of their mistakes and rectify them. They want to play hero, that's the answer for that.

The solution to counter this racial polarization and the so called 'Malay Dominance Principle' by UMNO and BN that seems to affect every loyal Malaysian is that every other BN component parties join together, stand up and pushing for the change within the ruling condition. The shooting of the idea is somewhat a bullshit response. They have to remind together what BN is actually for. Not by race, but Malaysians - Bangsa Malaysia. A good word from Dr. Toh Kim Woon is the admittance that BN is in this situation - hard to convince them to change for the better. But there are at least three major obstacles in that possible solution:

1. UMNO decides the role of BN Component parties.

2. The MCA and MIC is not doing their job of protecting the interests of non-Malays in Malaysia. All they did is just to acknowledge and kowtow to the edicts and orders of UMNO. No wonder we felt that MCA is just all about cocks!


3. We still remember what the Kerisman warning is all about.

The world has gone upside down. How on earth are we living as loving Malaysians if the rot continues and the idiots are still running the show badly?

Witchhounds in Campus

I remembered one my schoolmates in secondary school and my aunt studying at UPM for their degree courses respectively. I am aware that in universities there is such a thing as university politics.

Of course, student leaders are free to do so as long as it doesn't go above the ethics in the university.

But I feel that the case at UPM is quite outrageous.

That student is trying to make his time at UPM memorable and being active in various activities besides studying. Instead, he finds that his things are confiscated by security personnel who don't even understand the word of privacy.

First-year Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) student Yee Yang Yang is considering legal action to get back his laptop which was seized by the campus security on Friday night.

In addition to his laptop, the security officers also carted away Yee’s mobile phone, MP3 player and 10 other items valued at RM6,000 during a spot check of his hostel room. Documents were also confiscated.

Yee (right), who is studying timber technology, was also interrogated about his involvement in student politics.

Although he was told that the items would be returned last Saturday, this did not happen - and a 75-minute meeting with unit director Mej Othman Jailani today did not produce results either.

"They (security officials) wanted me to give them the password for my phone and laptop so that they could check the contents," he told reporters outside the campus security's office this afternoon.

"I refused. I want them to return my things and to apologise to me publicly because they did not follow proper procedures when they took away my belongings.

"Not only were they not in uniform, but they were also rude when I asked questions."

The attitudes of these authorities shows that they are arrogant, thinking that they are high and mighty. In addition, these "pigs" absolutely have no respect on one matter: privacy. Which is indeed against the rights of every human being that is entitled to.

I often think that to have that thing impede your way to make your life meaningful in campus means is to make a ruckus out of your for nothing.

If it is clearly because of the survey form in which you hardly like the current ministers of Bolehland, this means that you are trying to force everyone to accept the statement as the Nazi man Nazri would do before. It is still the shut up and listen mentality that these people are trying to impose. I recalled the statement that Machai made sometime ago that they still need to listen to the UMNO because of the superiority...why keep doing that when you know that you don't really agree to their ideas? Public backlash? That's because despite having the kind of stature and reputation, some of the cronies have a shallow level of understanding!

You don't have to stick to a group if you don't really agree on. You can just ignore the call to be called a black sheep. Stand up for what you are, people!

If I had the chance, I would definitely carry a gun and shoot the idiots point blank in the face. What a kind of disrespect you show to a student that poses no physical harm to others. Yee Yang Yang deserves the right to voice his on comment, not to be shoved of stupid men ideas!

The real truth is indeed hurting the guys at UPM. It's just another parallel case of the lawsuit against Rocky and Jeff. Kalimullah Hassan is trying to shut things up the same thing he gags Matthias Chang - a fellow man from the same school of mine - and Husam Musa. It's going to be another embarrassment for the idiots of the Bolehland.

I often dreamed of Bolehland guys running the nation well when I was a kid. But after Mahathir era, it is going the other way round. I just simply don't have much words to continue about that.

Hear Y'All - Cybertroopers' Stamp

I went over to by friend Mob's blog page and noticed that there are cybertroopers of Bolehland attempting to put a stamp of their mark by showing how racist they are. From what I've noticed, I don't think that it's the work of a child but idiots attempting to make a ruckus and eventually make others pointing fingers at bloggers.

Of course, the identity was set as guest it the time was at 5.09 p.m. to 5.14 p.m. local time.

Training Day - The Inspiration Behind The Iraq Invasion

Two days ago, I stumbled upon the published screenplay of Training Day by writer David Ayer (SWAT, Dark Blue). The draft is the shooting draft which includes deleted scenes excised from the final cut including the alternate ending of the film. You can check the shooting draft of the film here.

Before we go on, let me go through briefly the premise of film:

Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) is a rookie cop who is out to make a cut as a detective in LAPD's Narcotics Division. On this training day, he was assigned to be the understudy of veteran head Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington), whose methods of law enforcement are being under question. Harris methods has landed Hoyt into various problems including being framed for a murder, being a central character of a corruption scandal within the LAPD. Soon, he began to witness the dark, corrupt side of Harris which he must try to solve various twists and turns to solve a puzzle.

Much of the premise was written based on the 1998 Rampart Scandal involving disgraced office Rafael Perez. Hence, Washington based his character on Perez himself. If you look at some of the scenes of both cops beating up and arresting gang members only to have Alonzo letting them go and under his thumb, you can see this was how it culminates to Perez's testimonial of the Rampart Scandal. People in Los Angeles began to call the 70 groups of CRASH - Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums - the worst gang compared to the LA street gangs themselves. Following the scandal, CRASH was disbanded by then L.A.P.D head Bernard Parks.

It was only then I later found out that much of the metaphors of the script written by Ayer served as parallels that the White House would use in its official stance behind the decision to invade Iraq in 2003. Here is a summary of the metaphors written by Mark Kelly, a PhD candidate of philosophy of The University of Sydney :

1. Film: Jake Hoyt is a naive rookie who aspires to reach success and assumes that his methods and his contributions will help to make the community safe. On the training day, he helps Alonzo to patrol the streets of L.A from narcotics. On certain occasions, he played into the hands of Alonzo in his naivety.
Real Life: America's current aim is to spread its intention of peace using its own forthrightness, spreading its own doctrine and subversion to the entire world. During the 80s, America had come to work and helped Iraq to stop the Iranian Islamic Fundamentalism. But secretly, America had allowed Saddam to invade Kuwait and started the Gulf War.

2. Film: Alonzo is king of his neighborhood, but he was hated in secret by everyone.
Real Life: Saddam Hussein is president of Iraq but every Iraqis hated him in secret.

3. Film: Hoyt was nearly killed by Smiley (Cliff Curtis) and his gang in the bathroom but his forthrightness through saving Smiley's cousin who was gang-raped earlier of the day spared him and earned Smiley's gratitude. That allowed him to go out and hunt down Alonzo later.
Real Life: America was nearly destroyed by the 9/11 attacks, but the right-wing American government had a moral fortitude of going to Iraq and eliminating Saddam fearing that it has WMDs. In the end, the government was accused of lying to the people by fabricating the fact that Iraq has WMDs.

4. Film: Nobody helped Alonzo during the final stand-off. Not even his own children or the neighborhood. Even the gangs did not do what he said. Hoyt had earned his respect of the neighborhood.
Real Life: When the Iraqis learned that the U.S military was in Baghdad to remove Saddam Hussein from power, they just let them pass through without hindrance. Even the Republican Guard does that too since Saddam never respected them for what they did.

5. Film: Jake shot Alonzo at the last minute (seeing that he was to get shot too) on the thigh and left them to the people, including the Russian gangsters to deal with Alonzo - only after he settles some things including his evidence. From what he learned about Alonzo owing money to the Russians and the forbidden rule of killing a fellow officer, he delayed and left Alonzo to his grim fate.
Real Life: Though capital punishment is objected by Britain and Australia, the Americans left it to the Iraqis to decide justice on Saddam.

The legacy of CRASH and the 1992 L.A riots was still a painful scar of the past for Los Angeles. There was a rift corruption among the D.A's office, the LAPD. Take the "Three Wise Men" in the film, each represents the upper levels of corruption. The three helped Alonzo to solve his problem by cashing out on Roger (Scott Glenn) and fabricated the fact that Roger is a drug dealer. As the result of that, the naive Jake was setup as the man who killed Roger in cold blood in front of witnesses and Alonzo the perpetrator. Even Garth Ennis modeled the crooked cop and the police Tom Price (as in The Slavers) from Bernard Parks.

Maybe I might get out of point, but reading the script again and noticing the parallels made me realized that the similarities that the Bush Administration is using to manipulate the people to invade Iraq. And the 3 Wise Men subplot also serves as the corruption in White House and currently the scandal of Alberto Gonzales and his men.
