Sightseeing at Bukit Gantang

On the way back to Ipoh, I decided to do some sightseeing at Bukit Gantang as to make up for what I've missed out in Permatang Pauh and Kuala Terengganu.

I was unsure of whom to meet there, so I decided to call up Mat Saman Kati of Perak Express since he is the coordinator of the Bloggers Network in Bukit Gantang there. It was surprising to hear that he also knew me by reading my blog as well. So, we have no problems of communication.

Meeting up at Simpang at around 4.30 p.m, we toured around Bukit Gantang to see the candidate Datuk Nizar Jamaluddin. He is a few days ahead to get things kick-start prior to nomination day in Taiping.

We decided to see first the district of Terong. On the main road leading to Changkat Jering and Bukit Gantang, the main police beat base was along the main road, with many police cars, even from Selangor, KL and Terengganu were deployed here. Even also the highway police patrol were also called in as well.

We spotted three police APCs , two water cannons, FRU trucks and many other police cars on standby next to their beat base. From my guessing, it seems that they are all out to stop Anwar and his team at Terong later tonight.

After Terong, we visited Changkat Ibol. This spot is a PAS stronghold.

And then we went to the night market, off the main road while awaiting for Nizar to make his rounds at the night market. At around 6 p.m, Nizar was already at the front visiting people. He visited a chinese shop and greeted them in Mandarin - asking them "what are their troubles".

There was also an Indian shop he visited and greeted the man in Indian. He proceeded to visit every stall of the night market.

Next we went with him to Port Weld. Yes, my ex-teacher was the previous assemblyman there and we went to hear what Nizar said to the Chinese community there. There was a coal processing yard behind the hall. He gave his speech before Anwar arrived to give his speech.

We anticipate that the police are waiting for him in Terong so it will be a massive crawl there.

And for those of you who wish to cover the Bukit Gantang event here, give Mat Kati a call so that he can get you guys briefed from the ops center of parties involved there.

More pics of the coverage can be viewed by my Facebook link here.

At this time, I'm writing live from Bloggers Network base in Simpang.
