PUTRAJAYA: The Government has decided to set up a committee to stop the dissemination of false news, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
He said if lies were allowed to be disseminated, those doing it would think what they did was right.
“All this while, the Government did not take any stern action.
“However, if this is allowed to carry on, the people would continue to be cheated,” he told reporters after chairing the ministry’s post-Cabinet meeting here.
He said that besides himself, other committee members were Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz.
“At the committee’s first meeting three days ago, we decided to set up a high-level task force comprising senior officers from enforcement agencies under the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
“The Committee also discussed several related issues including the definition for fallacious news,” he said, adding that the media would be provided with a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure they didn’t run afoul of the law. - The Star
There was a saying, "History is written by the victor." Or consider another saying, "the more people believe in the lie, the more the lie becomes the truth." But how do we know that what they claimed to be a lie is actually the truth? It's the events that speak for themselves.
I could see that as is to give only a one lopsided view of the event. Because of the strict monopoly of the media coupled by Mahathir's PPA act 1984, people are given one side of the story. But even with that thing on, there are a few ways to see government responses.
Does this whole thing mean that their version, that is believed to be not entirely accurate to be their definitive version and nothing else? What if other parties see it as the same as I do and start saying that it's not right?
What if the truth, being branded as a lie is actually the naked truth? How can we know whether the statement above is correct or not?
Consider:
1. You tell the people that you have documents to say that this party has commited an act against standards, backed up with letters from those involved in the middle of the process. The party says no and choose to whack you. Later, the people found out that the party does thing they deny. What would that be?
2. You say that they do these thing and they keep quiet, with nary a reply or they evade the question when asked. What does that tell you?
