So far, it's 16 casualties in the 5-year old National Service. Last week, the 18-year-old Too Hui Min was found dead from colon problems. Initially, the camp authorities thought it was just a simple constipation and just gave her a quick remedy. Instead, it was only after persistent stomach problems that they took her to the hospital. How it became a colon problem is a mystery unless there is an accident where she accidentally took poison or something else.
That makes parents of future trainees fearful and skeptical of sending their children to the camp. And in that process, the will be forced to violate the National Service Act, liable to fine and prison sentence for refusal to send their children to National Service. Parents and opposition parties now have asked for the service to be scrapped or suspended.
Of course, having national service is a good thing since it's aim are defined in their objectives. And there is a big meaning between suspending and scrapping. I will definitely go for suspending it since they need to iron out all the problems and the workflow process. However, let me tell you a few things that not many know at National Service:
1. Did you know that the factory that manufactured the uniforms worn by the trainees is owned by Rosmah Mansor? For each year having 100 thousand + trainees, she stands to make about $5-10 million alone (cost + profits).
2. In the third module, national unity (if I am not mistaken), the trainees are indirectly taught that Barisan Nasional is the only party that they will have to rely on. It is nothing more than the Biro Tata Negara, which is worse than this. According to Dr. Lim Teck Ghee, Biro Tata Negara teaches the Malays to be fearful of the other races and another thing I recalled is that they are taught to hate the opposition and of course Anwar Ibrahim, since he was branded a 'traitor' to their race.
When Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai announced that the medical checkup system will have to be intensified, it is indeed wasting more of tax payer money for that thing and will do not good.
The whole process will have to be reviewed while suspending it. I think it suspension period should be for about a year or so.
